Topic: help please for tenor guitar

I play the ukulele (GCEA tuning) and recently purchased a Martin LXM Tenor (4 string) guitar because I read online in various places you can tune a tenor guitar to GCEA.  It has real strings on it, not nylon like my uke.  I tried to tune it to GCEA with the strings it came with and it sounds AWFUL.  I am guessing I need different strings, but do not want the nylon ones.  I called Martin twice and they are of no help. I have searched online for direction to no avail. I can't be the only uke player to want to graduate to a tenor guitar with the same tuning (and non nylon strings).  Can any one please help?

Re: help please for tenor guitar

I just read at this site that GCEA tuning the G is one octave lower.  Does that help?  And it says find books for tenor banjo, which is tuned the same way.  Good luck.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.
