Topic: Burns Bass

I thought this might be of interest. We had a Burns bass guitar brought in the shop last week for and overhaul and clean up prior to being sold. What colour would you say it is?

On removing the scratchplate the date of manufacture was discovered.

Removing the scratchplate also revealed the original colour of the bass.

What a difference a few years make!

Wow, at first look of the 3rd pic I thought it had been refinished. Man that's some serious fading. Funny tho, the black doesn't seem to have faded at all. I know red doesn't keep it's color as long as other colors but you would think it would have held up better since paints and stains were tougher back then.

Re: Burns Bass

Wow! That's a beautiful instrument. I actually prefer the "faded" color to the original. Just out of curiousity, what's the asking price for this beauty ?

Give everything but up.

Re: Burns Bass

Man, that's amazing!
I thought it was painted in sunburst fashion but apparently not.
I guess it started out as a cherry-burst and just faded to sunburst...lol.
But it's got the years that's for sure...

Re: Burns Bass

Toney, it has not been priced yet but I will let you know when I find out. I too prefer the faded look better than the original cherry-burst or red-burst as think it was originally described. Mind you after 46 years it is hardly surprising that she has faded somewhat.
