Topic: NEED HELP WITH A MEDLEY I WANT TO PUT TOGETHER

HI,
WANTING TO ATTEMPT MY FIRST MEDLEY BUT DO NOT KNOW WHAT SONGS WILL GO WITH THE MAIN SONG WHICH WILL BE
HIT THE ROAD JACK STARTING WITH AM CHORD. ANY SONG SUGGESTIONS THAT I COULD CONTINUE ON WITH GREATLY ACCEPTED . I DONT HAVE PROBLEMS PLAYING AN F. HOWEVER, REST OF MY BAR CHORDS ARE NOT GREAT . SO WOULD LIKE TO KEEP CHORDS SIMPLY AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANTICAPATED CO-OPERATION.  PS I DID THINK OF PUTTING THE LETTER BY THE BOX TOPS IN THEIR SOMEWHERE.

Re: NEED HELP WITH A MEDLEY I WANT TO PUT TOGETHER

You can convert about any song to the right key, so long as it is in the right feel.

The only other song I know in Am is "Ain't No Sunshine", but I think you could probably work Neil Diamond's "Solitary Man" into it which makes heavy use of Em and Am.

Granted B chord amnesty by King of the Mutants (Long live the king).

Randy Travis' version of Handel's "Oh Death" is in a minor key as well.  Not sure that it's Am, but you can adjust it.  That's one I've got to learn.  Great song.  Countrified classical.

I'm just thinking here..haven't tried it but if you transposed this to Cm or vise versa.. I think Stray Cat Strut would fit nicely in this chord pattern (maybe?)

Now available in 5G !

Re: NEED HELP WITH A MEDLEY I WANT TO PUT TOGETHER

Hi there Vincester,

Love "hit the road jack"... I would suggest you either find some Ray Charles songs to match your first tune or just keep it simple and include some 12 bar rock and rollers like "Hound Dog" "Blue Sude shoes" and "All shook up", "whole lotta shakin goin on" which I normally play in the key of (E) but could be played in any key to suit. Think these would link up okay to a tune in (Am) I reckon.

Start and finish with Hit the road jack and even repeat the chorus a couple of times at the end with key changes....usually has  a nice affect. Take it up a tone each time....

Now you need to record it and let us here it when your finished yah !!

Best regards,
Dave from Bali, Indonesia ...

Re: NEED HELP WITH A MEDLEY I WANT TO PUT TOGETHER

If you start with "Hit the Road, Jack" in Am, a good song to flow into would be "Stray Cat Strut" by The Stray Cats. Chords go Am, G, F, E in the verses.
Another song with the Am, G, F and E progression is "How Come My Dog Don't Bark When You Come Around" by Doctor John out of New Orleans.

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
Ya'll wanna go down to the Guf?
