Topic: Help with song please

Hi all

On the Bellamy Brothers page there is a song called Sugar Daddy that I would like to play but I don't understand the notation.  I may just be  thick but could somebody help me out and explain it to me?

Thank you

Re: Help with song please

Just looked at it and it does not make a lot of sense to me either. I do not know the song, but wonder are the numbers refering to the chords, as in I,IV,V. example in the key of G the 1 refers to the G chord, 4 to the C chord, 5 the D. 2m persumably is Am  and 2 is A . Reading the tab from left to right. hope this helps

Hi Darkvalley - that does seem correct.  Now I just need to figure out what 5 2m means.  Thanks for your help.

Re: Help with song please

My guess is that 5 2m is a slash chord of the fifth with the bass of the second.  That's a total wild guess.  Probably use that as an opportunity to walk down from the fifth through a minor arpeggio to whatever the next chord is.

I would guess that the fifth then the second minor is played. So in the key of G as used earlier; fifth is D and the second minor is Am.

I would also sugesst, because of the spacing that perhaps the duration of playing these chords is half that of the others.

This appears to be the Nashville chord numbering system, I think.  Check it out here.

Re: Help with song please

Hi Bolleauxp, I've played this song at times....that line has always been confusing. The way I play it is:

1       1       2m         5

meaning: G       G       Am        D (if your playing in the key of G)
and this works for me sitting around the living room jammin. I'm not real sure how to put this but I think that the {5     2m}      {Em       5}, they were trying to follow the vocalization at that part of the song. I hope this helps, by the way, I got to see the Bellamy Brothers several years ago in Vicksburg, Mississippi at one of the riverboat casinos. They were fantastic!

Thanks to you both Pete and Scott for your help on this one.  I think I've got it now.
