Topic: Blocked TABS from the UK

I got this message trying to reach some Beatles Tabs:  "MusicSales UK is claiming exclusive copyright to all the Beatles lyrics in the UK, and has asked Chordie to block all access to Beatles tabs for users originating from the UK.".  Well I'm in Canada... sooooo ?!?

**Abuse removed by Moderator. Foul languge, wriitten or implied is not allowed on Chordie**

Re: Blocked TABS from the UK

Jim... take a look at the zillions of threads in this section asking the same question.  My best suggestion to you is to ensure that your location and time zone are set properly and that you are logged in.  I am have never had a problem accessing Beatles songs, but others in Canada and the USA have intermittently had issues as well.  I think the code used to block the right people just isn't perfect.  This site is free, so perfection can't be expected!

Re: Blocked TABS from the UK

Thanks for the reply.  I did check those items, updated them, logged out/in... (sigh)  no luck so far.  I'll search for the tabs elsewhere this is too frustrating.

Re: Blocked TABS from the UK

BTW - what was the "abuse" that needed to be removed??  As for the comment on 'the site is free so perfection can't be expected'... there is enough advertising on the site so I'm sure that someone is being "supported" to maintain it's operation.  We don't ask for perfection, just reasonable performance and responsible managers of the site who take feedback and at the very least consider doing something about it rather than shrugging their shoulders and saying 'oh, well'.  I wonder of politically correct feedback, even if critical, is seen as something that can lead to improvement or will also be flagged as "abusive, whether written or implied"... hmmmmm.

Always feel free to search for tabs elsewhere, but do come back here often and join us.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Blocked TABS from the UK

Thanks, I will.  I love Chordie - when it works.  Still, no desire to even consider improving... a sad commentary on choosing mediocrity when excellence is in reach.

Re: Blocked TABS from the UK

Hey Jim, I just read my reply to you... and I'm assuming I had been getting frustrated that day because I've answered that question soooo many times.  I am sorry that I sounded so harsh!  I don't usually sad  Or... maybe what was edited was still there when I replied and I was insulted at how harsh it was and I was harsh back.  I frankly don't remember.  Again, I am sorry regardless of the reasons for my harshness.  You're right on a few points here!

Here is a thread with some information:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=14960
and a link in that thread takes you here to a discussion about the whole thing:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=11720

Sadly, none of this really answers any questions.

I don't handle this section of the forum, but I do pop in here from time to time just to help people understand some features and things like that.  Only the moderator in charge of this section, and the administrator of the site are allowed to edit members posts in this section.  I personally do not have that power in this section (when here, I'm just like you a member.  I only have "editing power" in the song requests, chat, and marketplace sections).  I do not know nor do I have access to whatever was written there that was edited out by the moderator of this section or the administrator.

The moderators of this forum do not have access to editing anything else within the Chordie site.  The administrator, username admin, known as Per, is the only person that can make website changes.  Moderators are only in charge of the forum.  Our "job" is simply to "moderate the forum" - make sure people behave while posting publicly.  With that said, if you want to make sure that your message is being sent to the person that can actually make changes, the best place is actually not on the forums.  If I went to the administrator with every issue that ever came up and every suggestion or question I didn't have an answer to from a member, I'd need a paycheck lol  Please, contact admin@chordie.com

Honestly, I really thought that the coding had to do with making sure your time zone was correct in the settings.  It may be something that he has to hard code as far as entering known domains that are not in the UK and perhaps the email address you are using is causing the issue.  It may be by ip addresses known to be in the UK or not.  It could be anything that's not known just falls under the clause of being excluded.  I think that you are  right... it seems that it could be improved upon.  You make a valid point about my comment on "perfection".  Like I said, I'm sorry my response was so harsh!  I assume that our fantastic website owner/admin/coding guru has done what he can as well as he can and next step would simply be to block everyone (of course, we don't want that!).   BUT... I could be wrong!  roll I don't know.  Again, I suggest you contact him directly.  Perhaps he can work his magic and add whatever he needs to - with the help of information from your email domain or ip address - to fix things for both yourself and many others.
