Topic: Does this happen to you???

Last nite while lying in bed reading ,,  No woman ,No Cry , came into my head.  I had to get up and play it on my uke.  I hadnt played my uke in a few months , but somehow couldnt resist.. When I had quit playing it ,, it was because I suddenly developed a interest in learning to play the banjo .  I messed around w/ that a few months, got tired of it and then got excited about my guitar.
Im bi-polar ,, so maybe this has something to do w it ,, but does this type of changability happen to yall?

Re: Does this happen to you???

Oh aye. My latest, as you probably know, is a uke. I WANT a uke. Maybe it'll pass but, hey, it's my birthday soon, I may need to treat myself. smile

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

Re: Does this happen to you???

Yep.  Happens to me.  I expect that a lot of folks will say it happens with them too.  My mom called them "jags", though I can't say why.  My Mom would say you've been on a banjo jag and are going on a uke jag.  Consistency is over-rated.

Re: Does this happen to you???

Glad to read this,, I dont feel so strange LOL
All the people I know face to face are much more consistent than me. They play one thing and stick with that .   I dont know if I just get bored or whatever . My wife says she can predict it.
Ive always thought if I had been able to stick with one thing ,, maybe I would get really  good at it ,, but I guess I will have to stick with enjoying them all.

Re: Does this happen to you???

For sure!! Have this terrible urge to get a mandolin. Some of the first music I learned

was bluegrass and always liked the mandolin. Been playing off and on with a mandy

picker. Back to work now so might as well get one.  If anyone is looking to sell contact

me.   Alvee--- Pix has one for sale you know and I think it is a very nice one.   Mike

Re: Does this happen to you???

If I barely learn a new song one day, I will wake up all night thinking about it and can't wait til morning to get back to it.  But no changing instruments though.

Re: Does this happen to you???

Same here, happens every night I go to bed. Only guitar though.

Re: Does this happen to you???

Once I got the bug to play the uke, I couldn't sleep thinking about it, either.  When I finally invested $40 in one, I couldn't put it down for several weeks.

Regarding the urge to get up and play a song, I feel that almost every day.  For a couple of weeks, I've been working on the Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End medley from the B-side of Abbey Road.  Sometimes, no matter what I am doing, I just have to drop everything, pick up my uke, and play the whole medley, start-to-finish, again...including "Her Majesty!"

Me with my first ukulele, a Junior Beatles model, in 1966.  After Mom threw it down the stairs in a fit of rage, I became a drummer for life.  At age 43, I bought my second uke...

Yeah, I saw that. It's a bit out of my price range for a 1st uke. I've also decided against the baritone. I also don't think Pix will ship it to the UK.

Sorry for hijacking.

Steve, I wish my wife could predict these things. Alas she doesn't take much interest in my musical fascination. I think she's just happy it keeps me out of her hair, and out of the pub lol

Re: Does this happen to you???

I've always thought accordian would be difficult.  Hundreds of buttons on one side, piano keys on the other and you have to constantly move it back and forth to produce the air that plays the tunes.  You don't see them much anymore.

Re: Does this happen to you???

I go back and forth between my nylon and steel stringed guitars.  Although they're both guitars, to me they are two completely different instruments.  They feel different, they sound different, they look different.  I've always wanted to learn piano too.  As for having the feeling to just jump up and grab one of them and play... ALL THE TIME... I don't know how many times I've been doing something "important" and thought to myself "I'd rather be playing my guitar".  (I need THAT tattoo next I think)

Art and beauty are in the eyes of the beholder.
What constitutes excellent music is in the ears of the listener.

Re: Does this happen to you???

I'm bad for changing instruments.... The past 2 weeks I haven't played the guitar much but have been hitting the uke and kalimba pretty hard instead. Played with the drums a lot this weekend also... My main instrument is always guitar but I go through periods where I focus on others for a few weeks just to keep them fresh.
As for songs... They hit me all the time! My wife even picks on me for playing in my sleep smile She says I lay there and start humming and then I'll start air fingering chords and strumming/or picking them lol I keep a guitar by the bed though and that's what I'm almost always doing before bed and I always get a few tunes in before I head out in the morning to...

[b][color=#FF0000]If your brain is part of the process, you're missing it. You should play like a drowning man, struggling to reach shore. If you can trap that feeling, then you have something.

Re: Does this happen to you???

No no no a concertina is from the middle ages. The button accordian is also different from the piano accordian. Actually I think the accordian is a descendent from the middle ages. concertina pictured below

Re: Does this happen to you???

Here's a button accordion, much cooler looking than that other dinosaur. I wanna learn some tunes from the Texas Tornados and some Tex-Mex Polkas.

Re: Does this happen to you???

My niece brought my grandson, Casey, an Irish whistle she bought for him in the Emerald isle. It is made of metal and very loud. He loves it and plays it often. He learned the Spongebob theme and played it on his latest video blog.
I'm just as bad. I am obsessing on bass guitar since my buddy lent me a nice bass amp.
As a lifelong tuberist, I love to eminate low vibrations. My Fender jazz bass through this Crate amp "gits 'er done".
