Topic: Guitar Tattoo

My husband is a tattoo artist (as his second job) and was invited to do a demonstration at a "Home show" yesterday. He hadn't planned well for this, he was thinking of just talking about the history of tattoos and what to look out for.  About 2 hours before leaving I suggested he just use me as a "model" and do an actual demo as it didn't seem talking to people for an hour was going to go very well.  Long story short, I got a spur of the moment tattoo on my shoulder. This is very unlike me!  I drew it up quick, he adjusted it, and about 40 minutes later I had a nice little abstract guitar on my right shoulder (back).

All went well, and we had a fun time educating people and explaining that he was only doing a demonstration, not "working" at the show. Lol!

Pics to come ...  anyone else have the love of music/guitar permanently engraved in their skin?

Re: Guitar Tattoo

Amy I had a guitar tattooed on my forearm on my 21st birthday I used to hang out in the arcade downtown in Milwaukee and there was a tattoo artist we got to be good friends and on my 21st birthday I celebrated a bit to much and he convinced me to get a tattoo "ouch" if you have seen any of my videos you can still see it there smile

Re: Guitar Tattoo

Cool! I don't have any music related tattoos yet. I do have the silhouette of a Chinese dragon on my right shoulder/back. I've been planning a soundhole on my inside forearm. I want it to look like your viewing the soundhole at an angle (like from the lower bout) with the  6 strings going over it, fading in before it and out after. I just haven't taken the time to get it done yet.

Re: Guitar Tattoo

Pete, I got my first tattoo a couple years ago, a lily in memory of our daughter that we lost.  I added another blossom to it the year after.  It took me forever to figure out what I wanted, although I always knew where I wanted it.  I've been considering what my next one would be for the past two years.  When this came up and I just said, "just do a small guitar or a heart with the kids initials", he didn't want to do it because I am so picky and don't do spur of the moment things too often.  Sometimes those are the ones that work out best though!

Russell, I've noticed your tattoo but couldn't make it out in your videos sad

Pix and Selso...  no worries, you've got time!  wink  Pix, I like the idea you have.  My hubby draws up all the tattoos he does.  He doesn't have racks of flash or anything like that in his shop.  He just has a few books for people to refer to, and then he redraws anything anyone picks out or brings in.  He once had three ladies come in each wanting a little bumble bee and he made each of them just a touch different.  He believes that everyone should have their "own" tattoo and never have anyone say "Hey, I have that SAME thing!"

Anyhow... here's the picture of it freshly done.  The headstock is a heart, and the soundhole is supposed to represent a smile.  Other than the heart and the outline, the rest of this is all shaded and will lighten up after it heals some (the neck is not going to be so dark).  He actually made up the stencil for this at his shop and then forgot it and had to free hand it on my back with ballpoint pen before beginning the tattoo at the home show.  The stencil had a better shape to it, but hey... we can smile about the day I got a totally spur of the moment tattoo by the hubster as a demonstration for the rest of our lives.  big_smile

When it heals I'll get a closer up shot of it and share.  BTW... for those considering a tattoo, this location on the back is a GOOD CHOICE as far as pain goes.  My other one is "near my heart on a fatty area", the pain factor between these two areas does NOT compare! roll

Re: Guitar Tattoo

Selso... running out of space and NO music related tattoos yet?  OH NO!  That's just not right.  Maybe there's room somewhere for just a little quarter note?  big_smile If you ever feel like sharing pics of your favorites, I'd love to see some of those cool tats myself!

Re: Guitar Tattoo

Alas, I have no web cam but if I can figure it out I will. most of mine are real personal but no music inspired ones. Ba fulls me too. Id like to get my avatar as a tattoo, but not in color just black and gray.

Re: Guitar Tattoo

I'm not a tattoo person.  I've been blacked out drunk in some of the worst tattoo ghettos on Earth, and I have nary a mark on me.  I take that as a sign from the Divine.  smile

I have thought about getting the circle of 5ths tattooed on my left forearm, though.  Permanent cheat sheet.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: Guitar Tattoo

Still considering that one huh Jerome?  I still say go for it... but no, not when your thinking is impaired.  That's something you need drawn up and tweaked to your liking before putting on your body forever.  I thought of you and that tattoo the other day when this whole thing came up.  I look up ideas for the circle of fifths tattoo from time to time, although I'm not knowledgeable enough yet to be putting that on me.  You should check out some that are online that have been done!

Selso, where is that image on your avatar from?  That would make a pretty nice small black and grey... or even as a solid black tribal piece.  No camera?  Awe... I was hoping to come back on here and see a ton of pics!  LOL... oh well.

Brilliant!

I'm thinking if I ever get one it will be the universal "no" circle with a line overtop of a chord diagram for the B chord.  Don't know where I'd put it.  Probably my buttocks just to show the B what I think of it.

Re: Guitar Tattoo

Ah, alass, the buttocks are the brunt of many a joke, but a good place for the B chord, nevertheless

ha ha... Zurf I'm not sure if that would fall under the category of "love of music/guitar" ... but it sure would be a musically inspired tattoo!

Dude, you are an ever flowing fountain of inspiration.  big_smile

I've looked for a good tattoo of the circle, and haven't found one yet.  GIS comes up with nothing interesting.    If your husband is up to it, I'd be interested in looking at some designs, though.   Next time I'm in NY we could talk about it.

Re: Guitar Tattoo

Thought about getting a tattoo or two several times throughout my journeys here and there. Opted for the pre-paid college tuition route for the kids instead. Imagined it might be a tad bit better investment.....  Nowadays the freakish person is the one that doesn't have a tattoo!!! hahaha.. To each their own though.

Give everything but up.
