Topic: Buzzing high E string

Hi all
I just bought a new (used electric guitar) from the local pawn shop. It's an Ibanez 2i0. It's set as low as any guitar I've ever seen. The problem is that round the 7th fret the high E string buzzes against the next fret.
There are 2 small allan screws at the bottom of the string (butt plate?) and a larger screw at the bottom. Do I just need to adjust the allen screws to raise the string a bit or adjust the screw? I've never owned an electric guitar befor and I'd hate to have to take it to the guitar shop if it's just a simple turn of the screws.

"What's a sweetheart like you doing in a dump like this?"

Re: Buzzing high E string

If it's buzzing at the 7th fret, I'd check the neck before adjusting the bridge.  If the truss rod is too tight, it would force the neck back.   Take a level and lay it on the edge of the neck to see how much or little it's bowed.

Also check the frets that are buzzing to see if they are worn or grooved.  I've got a fakeocaster with a notch ground in the 2nd fret on the 2nd string.  Don't know what key the guy played in, but it seems to be the only one he played in.  big_smile

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: Buzzing high E string

I don't know anymore than you do honestly Butch.  My husband set his electric up himself by doing a bunch of reading... however... his was brand new!  If you click "back to main page" on that link there's a bunch more info.  Absolutely listen to Jerome's advice, he knows a LOT about guitars!  smile  I just know how to find stuff online quick wink LMAO!
