Topic: guitar charts

I have to ask. On guitar charts, some notes are marked by X's and some by O's. These are at the top. They are on every chord that appears to have notes that are untouched. I always  assumed these marks were to indicate to leave that string open. I think I may be wrong, or why would some be X and some O? Help?

Re: guitar charts

Welcome Olgee!!!!

The x's mean don't play that string.
The o's mean it is an open string.

Simple as that!

Welcome to Chordie Olgee!

Z is correct!  X = muted or not played, O = played open.  sometimes you will also see an X in the middle of a barre chord to indicate that the chord is strummed but that string is muted.

Tahnks for posting, should warn you though... it could be habit forming.
