Topic: best acoustic guitar for small woman

Hi Folks,
I currently play the uke and I am thinking of trying my hand at the guitar.  I am 5'3 and very small frame.  I've never had any luck with playing full size guitars.  Can't see over it to see the chords.  Anyone know of a mid range acoustic with a small frame that sounds decent?  I am a grown woman so I would like to stay away from Daisy Rock guitars or the new Taylor Swift guitar.  I'd like to keep the price under $400.  I went cheap on my first uke and had to upgrade because of sound quality.  Thanks for any input.

acox1918, Welcome to Chordie. Try doing a google search for 3/4 size guitars or parlor size guitars. Many manufacturers offer guitars in these sizes which are a little above a "child" instrument. Martin offers a small guitar in the $300.00+ range. Hope this helps. I'm sure someone will post a site for you to go to.

Hey Alexis! Welcome to Chordie!

I think you'd be most comfortable with a parlor, 000, 00, etc.. or possibly even a folk or GA (Grand Auditorium)body size. It's really best if you can get out there and get some hands on playing at a local music store. Try a few diffrent sizes and see what's most comfortable for you.  All we can do is guess.... But here's mine smile I'd consider either a parlor or 000. Here a great example of a nice sounding parlor in your budget http://www.artandlutherieguitars.com/ami.htm and here's a nice 000 in your budget http://elderly.com/also/new_instruments/items/RO07.htm  What style of music do you plan to play? Strumming or fingerstyle?

Baby Taylor?

Re: best acoustic guitar for small woman

Welcome to the forum!

I have a 3/4 size Ibanez.  It wasn't anywhere near that price tag and sounds pretty nice.  I have been into the guitar stores since and fell madly in love with a Parlor size Ibanez electro acousitc... price tag was $350.  I didn't care if it was electrified or not... I LOVED the acoustic sound unplugged.  DEF check out parlor size guitars in your price range.  You will NOT be disappointed at what's out there!

Thanks guys for the info.  I've done some research and have found a lot of good reviews about the LXK2 Little Martin.  And it has a nice look to it.  I have a friend who runs a music store and he has a few for me to play.

As far as my style, I'm more of a hum and strum type.  For now atleast.  Have to start somewhere.  Glad to be onboard here at Chordie.com.  Seems like a good place to be!

YEAH!!!!  Got me a Taylor Big Baby.  Looking at the Baby Taylors in person, they were so small.  But the Big Baby fits just right.  Now if I switch over from uke chords to guitars chords, I'll be set.
