Topic: MOST TECHNICAL + SPECTACULAR SONG(s) 60-70's

I don't hesitate:
- BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY by QUEEN, a masterpiece of song-band-producer-arrangements AND EARLY 70ties.
Now they are recording in the studio, 1 month for 1 song!! PLEASE GO BACK TO THE ROOTS and njoy us with 1-2 albums a year, like Beatles, Stones did.

Tough to go wrong with Neil Young when it comes to the 70's.  I've been listening to some of those songs for thirty+ years and they're still fresh to me.  Cinnamon Girl, Down by the Riverside, The Needle and the Damage Done.  Good stuff.

Ah, Art Rock stuff.  Yeah, Bohemian Rhapsody is a good one.  I think you'd have to include The Moody Blues' "In Search of the Lost Chord" album.  Each song is good, and together they tell a story.  Plus, they are exquisitely engineered and mastered.

Look to Yes and Kansas for some other well-crafted and produced orchestrations. 

I should see whether In Search of the Lost Chord is available on CD or MP3 download.  Of course, there's a certain perspective one used to maintain when listening to that album that is no longer socially acceptable or acceptable for a man with a family who depends upon him.

There's a whole lot of "progressive" rock groups out there that are absolute technical masters.  Anything by Yes.  Mid 70s Return to Forever.   Dream Theater.  Giraffe.  Spocks Beard, and the grand daddy of them all, Rush.    There's a ton of good stuff out there.  All good, highly technical stuff.

As a note, if you can find any of Giraffe founder Kevin Gilbert's stuff (that Cheryl Crow didn't steal) get it. It's fantastic.   He had a couple of solo albums out before he died, and I believe his last one, The Shaming of the True, was released posthumously.

Someday we'll win this thing...

In the past Zurf, in the past, THERE IS OUR YOUTH, but I feel very young for being 54y old.
NO GREY HAIR, but a pepper & salt beard.

This a thread for old far**like us.
GREAT BANDS, USING PROGRESSIVE "MATERIAL" like a MELLOTRON and a (MINI)MOOG  was not seen before.
Pioneers were The Moody Blues, Atomic Rooster, even Pink Floyd.
MY POINT IS STILL THOSE BANDS HAVE A LOT MORE ALBUMS THAN TODAY'S BANDS. How & why?

hi phil 60s/70s sounds were and are the basis on how todays bands are being created,they are using old methods to create their new sounds,there's no sound to replace that era its just being coppied which is a good thing it keeps that era alive to prosper,what i don't like is this boom boom stuff these boy racers keep dishing out with their big speakers in the boot roaring out every night,thats not music its just a annoying  irritating noise that dose'nt relate to anything or tell a story or have any meaning,i just wish their speakers would explode i does my head in.....stay cool

Back in the day, "The Age of Aquarius" was a challenge. It took many rehearsals to get the harmonies stacked and male and female voices blended up.
"Saturday in the Park" by Chicago took my band five - three hour rehearsals to clean up. It was well worth the effort because we were the only band in Mobile, Alabama that did a creditable job with it. Crowd response was very rewarding.
