Topic: Google Maps

Google has mapped London Ont. from the ground. A lot of people are upset about it cause they say it's an invasion of privacy. I'm Ok with it cause I didn't get caught on my back deck drinking a beer in my gauchies and picking my nose. lol With this you can zoom in for a high resolution picture.
If your not sure how it works and you want to see my home, my S10 truck and my back deck, go to goggle maps (At the top of Google home page) and type in 454 admiral drive london ontario. click on the pin to get the street view. From there you can manipulate and travel the street to see the sights.
Check your own address to see if they caught you with your pants down. ( No Pun Intended lol). Hopefully nothing incriminating will show up. There was a lot of people in downtown London that are in it and are real upset. I can see their point but then again it's just a picture with out a name.
It doesn't bother me that I gave my address here cause I can't see how it can be of harm.

Any other thoughts on this?
Enjoy the tour. big_smile

Re: Google Maps

Looks like a nice little neighborhood Kenny!  I live in a more rural area, so they still have pictures from over 6 years ago on there... but sometimes it's nice to look and remember my old pick up (ahhh the days when I did not NEED to own a minivan)!  LOL!  They don't get quite as close to my house as yours, no street views.

For the most part, the street views are of the fronts of people's houses, I think if you're going to be picking your nose on your front porch, then all your neighbors are going to see.  You can't really see that much of the back porches... and in such a populated area, I'd be sure to keep the nose picking INSIDE where no one can see!  LMAO!  Shame on them for picking their noses outside.

Re: Google Maps

Hi MKM, It's a nice area of town I'm in which is pretty cool. Google will be photographing every street in the world eventually and there is bound to be some nose picking or whatever somewhere. lol  I'm just glad I got off easy. We have a population of 350,000 and they have a street view picture of every street and house in town.
That must have taken a ton of work to do it all.

Bwaaaaa...maybe your house is next.

Re: Google Maps

GOOD LORD!  I just went back on there, I couldn't stop myself... I wanted to see if you could see any people walking around... and sure enough upon zooming in just a LITTLE bit more the picture changed!  The big picture shows my green pickup (rest it's soul) and my husband's red work truck... but I was able to zoom in further and get A STREET VIEW!  And there's my minivan in the driveway.  Take a few more looks around the side of the house, and we can see my husband's red jeep... so I'm guessing this picture was taken fall of last year!  Ha ha!  Either I never bothered to try to zoom in further after seeing the green truck, or they just updated this.  Ewww... my house looks a mess in that picture!  ha ha!  If you'd like to see my very OLD home that still needs lots of repair (or you just want to drool over my husband's not yet finished pole barn) check it out:  2065 State Route 49 North Bay NY.  My town isn't in the system, so I think it will return a different town (cuz... um... no mail delivery here with the post office next door)... but it'll still bring you to the right place.

Interesting, the houses along the lakefront just down the road haven't been updated yet.  Likewise, the beachfront houses a few miles down the road haven't... just the main roads.  Yay for me living on a main road.  It'd be nice to see the lake views on there!!

I've been working on a similar project for Skyhook wireless the past couple of months. Skyhook provides the GPS tech behind the i-phone and other phone based mapping devices. It's not nearly as detailed as the Google street-view (no camera, not every single street).

They sent me detailed maps, a netbook computer and an antennae box that sticks to the rear passenger window in my vehicle. Basically, I drive around on the selected roads and their hardware locates and maps all cell towers and wi-fi networks. It doesn't use the wi-fi signal, just locates them and with that info, the software in your i-phone can determine your location.

I imagine google does a similar thing - hire local drivers for a few weeks or months to drive around their local towns. I've driven nearly all the roads in central North Carolina - not such a bad thing this time of year, watching the leaves change and fall. It always amazes me how quickly one can leave a medium size newer city, such as Raleigh and within a few miles be in rural Americana that hasn't changed in 50+ years.

Rule No. 1 - If it sounds good - it is good!

Re: Google Maps

oooohhhh... check out the image of your house on Bing (sorry Kenny, you're not on there for the bird's eye) ... no street views, but the photo quality of the bird's eye view is superior to google's image.  Beautiful!  Fly out over Oneida Lake near my house and soar like the gulls!

Topdown... now THAT sounds like a nice simple job!  Although, it might get a little boring and lonely driving around all day long.  Pretty neat gig you've got there!

Re: Google Maps

Well it's not google maps but I'll share a pic of where I call home. I snapped this last winter during our brief snow.

The room on the left ,with the seperate door, is my office/studio room where I spend most of my time. That old oak in the back is one of my favorite things about the house... At 6 ft from the base it measures 27 ft around and branches out to cover almost 2 lots! Huge plans for a treehouse this spring smile

Re: Google Maps

Just be thankful they don't have Google bathroom out there.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Google Maps

Nice place you have there MKM big_smile If you think your house looks a mess(and it don't) You should see my bedroom. Your home looks like the kind of place a campfire happens on a regular basis and one can put there feet up at night and relax. Awful handy having the school so close. If hubby is putting overhead doors on his pole barn and has any questions at all, feel free to ask. I hung doors for nearly thirty years and now I sell them cause I'm not as young as I used to was. lol The pic on bing is a little better. Thankfully there is no street view cause that is my work truck (at least 5 years ago) out front meaning I was probly on the back deck passed out. lol

Topdown,
That sounds like a pretty cool job big_smile I love driving the country and seeing the sights. Twenty miles out of London is a huge Mennonite area. It is pretty wild watching them plow with horses. sad
Thanks for the info big_smile

Hey Pix...Nice. I'd give my right arm just about to own property like yours. It's gotta make you proud...tired cutting the lawn and raking the leaves but proud.
Great Post Card Pick big_smile

Hi. bensonp...if they ever get to bathroom pics I just hope they're not scratch and sniff  lol lol

Re: Google Maps

Yes, we do have campfires out here... HUGE ones, they're more like bonfires!  Yep, the school across the road, and then next door is the post office and town hall and across from that is the corner store and the bar.  And that is ALL there is in this little town.  LOL!  Well... except for my little salon is built in the side room on the house (when you go up the side stairs).  Nice and quiet!

Pix... enjoy this picture taken in 07 of a little snow storm we had (note, only the first 3 steps on the front porch aren't covered with it... after the plowing, the kids were actually sledding in the back yard!):

and the back door... lots of digging that year as our propane tank is on the OTHER side of that entry:

Your house is BEAUTIFUL Pix!  I'm not sure if I'm ready to live close to neighbors yet or not... but still quite lovely!  Actually... I think I'm sick of the old fixer upper and wouldn't mind having closer neighbors if it meant less headaches with fixing things!

The nicest thing about this house, is stained glass window toppers all the way around (above each of those big windows and the smaller windows in the bedrooms too)... sad... no one can really see them until you're inside the house.  I do love my front porch too... pretend I'm in the south sitting on my "front porch pickin" with a glass of "sweet tea" ... ahhh... yes... the south just keeps on callin my name, but would they accept such a yankee as me?!

Bensonp... google bathroom?  LOL!  smile
