Topic: Hi all

Hi, i've been dabbling with guitar for about 3 years but have just started learning seriously in the last 6 months. I have learned chords A,Am,C,D,E,Em and G and can strum along to a few songs like Maggie may, Tequila sunrise, Knocking on Heavens door and a few others although i sometimes miss chords because i can't change fast enough but i'll keep practising.
I am looking for new songs to learn but i have found that a lot of songs on the site appear to have incorrect chords listed as when i play them it sounds out of tune to the original. Are the chords listed incorrect or am i missing something.
Any advice gratefully appreciated.
Cheers
Jon

Re: Hi all

Welcome to the Chordie forum Jon!  Chordie works as a search engine and the chords/tab is found all over the internet from other sites where the songs are hosted.  There's no promise as to them being "correct" or "original".  You'll find when you open up the songs on the right side of the screen is an accuracy rating (rated by others as to how "correct" that particular song is).  You can also rate the songs on their accuracy as well.  To ensure that you have the actual "original" song, you'd need to go the old fashioned way and actually purchase the music.  "free" is not always perfect... but it's a good starting point!

Art and beauty are in the eyes of the beholder.
What constitutes excellent music is in the ears of the listener.

Re: Hi all

Many songwriters, The Beatles were really bad, publish wrong chords on their sheet music. Check any chord you doubt by playing along with U-Tube performances if possible. When I started I would listen, repeat and listen until I could find one note of the chord in question on my guitar. I would then listen and try until I heard and found a second tone. If you can hear and find a third tone in the chord, you are usually home free or close enough.
If you are playing along with a recording and miss a chord change, be on time for the next chord change. Stopping and repeating is a bad habit. Gotta keep the flow going. Work all this stuff out when you rehearse alone. When you put in to "play" the song keep going and don't break rhythm.
