Topic: Next New Guitar

I have been lookin for a small guitar to keep in my home for the little visitors that come and go. I have tried the little martins and baby taylors and the small crafters. I really like alvarez guitars but these are so new there isn't much out for reviews. Both my grandsons are wanting to learn and I have a couple nephews also that are still too small for a full size so this is #1 on the list right now unless I get swayed another way.

Wayne - Not sure of your budget, but I recommend you check out a Composite Acoustics Cargo. These guitars are serious instruments and because they are made from carbon-fiber, they are virtually indestructible. Perfect for the youngsters, yet with a sound that I'm sure you would enjoy. I own a CA 71 (now called a GXI) and it is a fantastic guitar.

I bet you could pick up a used cargo in the $500 to $600 range.

Re: Next New Guitar

I sure would like to try one of them, I will have to check into their site and see if there is a dealer in the state. Our towns are few and far between smile

Re: Next New Guitar

I'll go ahead and recommend a couple of dealers if you are really interested. Both of these folks are outstanding, with great return policies. NOTE - prices listed are NOT the bottom line, call to get the real deal.

Acoustic Pro (this is where I bought mine): http://www.acousticpromusician.com/inv_ca.htm

But honestly, for a kids guitar, carry to the campfire, play outside in the snow, I would probably try to find used. Literally, these guitars cannot be damaged. Check ebay, craigs list, or here is a classified section from the carbonguitar forum that I also visit.

Re: Next New Guitar

The alvarez looks nice Wayne. I haven't had a chance to try one either.

I would love to get my hands on one of those CA's one day smile

I use a Takamini as a travel guitar and my son playes it... It fits him perfectly (11 years old today!) It sounds surpisingly good especially plugged in.  Solid cedar top, mahoogany back and sides with factory installed electronics.  They quite making this model but I see one on ebay every now and then.

Or have you considered possibly a Baritone ,or other size, Uke smile   The kids love mine and I still manage to get plenty of play time myself wink

Re: Next New Guitar

I checked out the sights, I think maybe I'll start ratholeing a little money and go for one of them. I am kinda in the doghouse. I bought another ultralight acoustasonic speaker cab to go with my setup. I am now a full stereo operation.
My wife sure didn't think it was necessary when it showed up at the door today sad
