Re: Need Help

It's not what guitar is best for a beginer. It's what guitar is best for you. That's the way too look at it.

There are people on here who will be able to give you better and more in depth advice than I can, as I'm pretty much a novice myself.

What I would say is this; go to a friendly guitar dealer and try every one in the shop that you fancy having. Don't matter if you can play or not, just sit with 'em and get a feel for 'em. You'll find that some are just more 'you' than others.

That's what I done anyway. I ended up with a Mexican Strat that I love playing....although I'm now desperate for a Takamine acoustic that I've been eyeing up in the shop.

Try before you buy and you wont go wrong.

Can't help you regards sounding like 'Purple Rain' though.

Re: Need Help

Well, you can make almost any good electric sound like Purple Rain, its really how good you are and the effects you put on it. If you're going for an electric, i would suggest an American Fender Strat, great beginning electric guitar, and if you run it thru a Vox amp and a distortion pedal, it will sound awesome. other good electrics are Gibson SG's and Gibson Les Paul's but those are pretty expensive and more for the advanced player.

Re: Need Help

There is no one guitar that will make you sound like Prince.  Look for the one that makes you sound like YOU, only better. Go simple on a first guitar, get a decent amp if you are going electric.Spend the rest on lessons... then you will have a better idea of what you want for your next guitar.

P.S. Don't let any one try to fool you... all of us "older guys" are looking towards the "next" guitar.
