Topic: what are pots?

I have heard some say that the guitar was better after I replaced the pots. Is that slang for pickups? Please explain if you would be so kind.

A potentiometer (pot) is a variable resister used for adjusting the volume, bass, tenor, etc.  Cheap ones are scratchy and don't operate as smoothly.

You did not mention whqt type of pick ups you have Humbucker or single coil. With Single coil use a 250k pot and humbuckers use a 500k pot for volume & 250k for tone.
