Topic: I need easy songs to practise playing and singing

ive just got used to the idea of singing and playing at the same time and its tricky but im sorta getting it. the only problem is i can only play one really well and i cant seem to find any others that i like or are at my skill level. i think ive grasped the key chords so that isnt a problem. i would like to find fairly popular stuff that i will know and also i can play and people will recognise. any ideas? or any help/advice you can give me?

'woohoo' is the greatest lyric ever thought up - it can be put into any song!

Hey Elliotg! cool

How 'bout:

La Bamba/Twist and Shout" (Basically the same) C, F, G.

James - "Sit Down" F, Bb, C.

Clapton - "Wonderful Tonight" G, D, C, D, for the riff and an Em thrown in here and there.

"So Lonely" - The Police and Marley's "No Woman No Cry" are both C, G, Am, F.

When I think of more I'll get back!

Re: I need easy songs to practise playing and singing

What I have done is to pick some songs that I very much want to learn and recorded the originals to a CD.  When I drive around, that CD is in the truck radio.  I sing along, but not just sing.  I concentrate on what verse is coming up, whether there's a musical interlude, where the bridge is, the order of the verses, whether the chorus changes lyrics to move the story along, etc.  It is something that you can do without endangering others around you and really get to know the lyrics.

Re: I need easy songs to practise playing and singing

Welcome to Chordie Elliotg.  You didn't give us a hint on your one song or tastes, but if you can play a F or perhaps a Bm a lot of songs become available.  Here's several I like for their simplicity and also popularity.  Though in some places nobody will know one of them.  If so, maybe even better! ha
