Topic: FROM HEAVEN TO HELL

Late 60ties: PEACE NO WAR all great things together.

IF WE PUT "WOODSTOCK" as the ultimate love & peace concert, I really wanted to know what happened.

WHAT DID CHANGE A WONDERFUL "CONCEPT, like WOODSTOCK?
1) THE MONEY? because even great, popular bands had troubles (a lot caused by neglecting and throwing money away. (See: AEROSMITH, a huge hit in the seventies, followed by some bad albums.)
2) There are a lot of "sharks" kissing your MUSCULUS GLUTEUS." and collecting the crumbs on the floor.
3) S, D & RnR, lifestyle killed many artists, but also THE IMPACT on the people.

WAS "THE TURNING POINT" ALTAMONT WITH THE ROLLING STONES. I remember me so well, Mick starting to talk to the people, and Keith continuing playing
OR AM I ALONE WITH THAT OR OTHER POINTS OF VIEW.

Re: FROM HEAVEN TO HELL

Don't think of it as a musician.  Think of it as a doctor.  They were all stoned, severely and frequently.  It made them feel good, but it damaged their bodies, minds and spirits.  The good feeling is ephemeral and diminishes with frequency.  The damage is permanent and cumulative.  No way it could last.

Re: FROM HEAVEN TO HELL

Woodstock was a singular event, monumental in it's scope and the myth's that surround it.  On the positive side, great music came out of it, great groups added to their legend, many people had a once in a lifetime experience that was positive.

On the negative side, it was a disaster, both environmentally and a corporate legend was created that many have tried to, but can never be duplicated.  Though many have tried.  1.)When it was over the town and state were left holding the bag with the massive cleanup of garbage, wreckage and shattered lives from bad drugs, unprotected sex and std's, The farmer who owned the land had his fields left as a huge quagmire of mud due to the weather conditions and reckless and stupid behavior of a majority of humans who went there.

Simply speaking, when looked at in the cold harsh truthful light of reality, woodstock was not a "paradise".  Or "camelot" as many would portray it.  What's disgusting to me is the dollar signs that are replacing eye's and brains in so many corporations hoping to exploit the legend of woodstock for their own profit.

Forgive me my rant, but, I was an adolescent at the time and while I love the music and envy those who actually experienced it.  I am also someone with a keen sense of history (one of my loves) and after much thought and research.   Zurf hit one of the nails on the head.   Altamont is proof of that.  A woodstock wannabe, that revealed the true face of good music, drugs, bad decisions, corporate greed and amoral idiots like Mick and the Stones.   And a bunch of people flocking like sheep to the corporate pied piper music tune.

Maybe those of us on the outside looking in have better perspective than others.

But, as a pundit once said, if you can remember the 60's, you weren't really there.  ::-P

Well I am glad to share this.
1) Such a huge festival.

3) BOB DYLAN WHO LIVED ALMOST IN THE BACKYARD DIDN'T COME
AND THIS IS ALMOST THE "GREATEST SPINAL TAP CONVENTION
4) JIMI HENDRIX, the HEADLINER played the last day at 08.00h, ME BEING 14 y old.

THIS IS ME: Growing up, I was born in 1955, 12years when I discovered 1967, 68, 69....
My parents were NOT PLEASED when they heard us listen to that "djingel, jangle music"
And my mum too, now and milder.

Re: FROM HEAVEN TO HELL

Woodstock from my perspective was another of those WARHOL effect events, totally over rated and blown way way out of proportion to what it really was, my wife and I sure partied out and smoked a ton on mexican weed but the music was really pretty average and most of the legends etcetera were in peoples minds, yeah it was fun but shit we've been to way better events by far that barely got a mention, the WARHOL effect blurs the reality...........
