Topic: "Happy Cute"

Here is a simple little 3-chord song of love inspired by all the lovely 'happy cute' females I have ever seen or met.  I'm deliberatly trying now to keep my lyrics short and sweet and avoid my usual barrage of vocabulary and polysyllabic verbiage . . .

Re: "Happy Cute"

I was singing it a little elvisy and it seemed to work...kind of like he sings don't be cruel...I see what so many are telling me that with out hearing it there is so much left up to what the reader hears in their mind. Good though but I might be guessing wrong with how to sing it.

Re: "Happy Cute"

HeyHo Jeff - You won't have to guess how this one sounds much longer.  I have just made my first do-it-yourself recording of this song.

I both proud of and embarassed by the recording.  Have sent it to RogerGuppy to be posted to the 'Friends of Chordie' MySpace.

Just noticed your newest song on the forum, but I'm way too tired to give it a twang and warble - tomorrow I shall give it a twirl.

Pleased to announce that RogerGuppy has been kind enough to post "Happy Cute" to the FriendsOfChordie site at MySpace.

This is my first do-it-yourself recording, so I am both proud of and embarassed by the results.

Re: "Happy Cute"

Hey James - Vocals are much better. My instructor told me it's better (especially when you first start out) to seperate the vocals and guitar and kind of simple things out (good application of the KISS principle) and I believe you were playing and singing which is very tough. This Software I just got is supposed to handle that but I haven't figured it out yet...but soon. All in all good job can't wait for the next one!

Re: "Happy Cute"

Hi James,

After listening to "Happy Cute" I replayed the copy I have of "On A Day Like This" and the recording is so much better. You seem more at ease and less mike shy now, it can only get better.

The tone of your instrument comes over richer in fact I can how hear that it is not a guitar you are playing. Having never heard and autoharp before I am very impressed with it and I am going to try to see if I get my hands on one to try. Unfortunately music shops are few and far between here so I might have no luck.

I enjoyed your song and played and sang along with the recording and it was more upbeat than I expected - I liked it.

I agree with Jeff about the recording. If you can sing to the pre-recorded music it is easier which is why I write a backing track for the songs I am commenting on.

Thank you,

Roger

Re: "Happy Cute"

Thanks for the words of encouragement, gentlemen!  I am having great fun with GrageBand and my Snowball microphone.

I shall try the separate tracks approach - it makes sense, but is different from what I am used to doing.  I just need to approach it in a rational way and start out with very simple exercises.

Roger, autoharps are fun - we can discuss the pros & cons of various brands and models via private messaging.  James

"Nobody paints by ear so why would I play guitar by sight?" hmm

Re: "Happy Cute"

Wow Mike, I'm honored that you like one of my songs enough to perform it!  Have fun with it and let me know how it went.  James
