Re: i need some help

Hi Stephen, welcome to Chordie. Have a look here...

http://www.justinguitar.com/en/TB-011-ReadTAB.php

I seem to send everyone here for anything they ask. I'm a big fan of Justin and his site is great, with loads of free stuff and instructional videos.

All the best. TAB is great for those of us who find music notation a bit intimidating.

Cheers.

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

Re: i need some help

Hey Stephenmperrotti and welcome to Chordie! cool

When you see the 6 lines of a tab, they represent the strings. The topmost line represents the top string (played open it's the highest sounding note) also called Top E or the first string. Imagine laying your guitar flat on your lap and putting the tab over the stings, each line corresponding to the string of the guitar underneath.

The numbers on the lines represent the frets. If you see a 0 (zero) on a line it means you play that string open. If you see a number on a line you play that string fretting at the fret number indicated.

---------0--------
---------1--------
---------0--------
---------2--------
---------3--------
------------------

The above represents a C chord with all notes played at once (strummed or plucked together). 1st string open, 2nd string fretted at 1st fret, 3rd string open, 4th string fretted at 2nd fret, 5th string fretted at 3rd fret and 6th string not played (in this instance).

------------------0--------------
---------------1-----1-----------
------------0-----------0--------
---------2-----------------2-----
------3-----------------------3--
----------------------------------

The above represents that same C chord arpeggiated, or each note played individually one after the other, up then down again.

I hope this is clear, if not get back and all will be explained!

Re: i need some help

Hi Stephen and Welcome to Chordie!

See this is a good place to be!  Lots of helpful people ready and willing to help in whatever way they can.  Everyone has gone through the same process and I doubt that you can find a larger and kindlier group on the WEB other than Chordieans.  (that might be misspelled, my English isn't too good being American and all) LOL

Don't be shy about posting, and have fun with your music!

Take Care;
Doug
