Folks
after a long break from serious practice I've signed up for guitar classes - advanced
its a group class so there potential to look really bad in front of a lot of people. so I'm cramming my scales
I alos need to revise my circle of fifths so I can play the root note, fourth and fifth in each position
is a there drill for this (you know an exercise)
there probably is, but I've forgotten.
any help gratefully received

Just a word of warning here. The link above has a number of errors in it. In the diagram at the bottom of the page the chords above the guitar tabs have the following errors
the B maj chord, 3rd note from top shows Eb. It should be D#
the F# maj chord shows a Bb at the top. This should be A#
the C# maj chord shows F (natural) It should be E#
the G# maj chord shows Eb. It should be D#.
These are enharmonic errors. The note would sound the same when played on the guitar or piano. However, the notation is incorrect.
This problem relates directly to the other thread in this section asking about E# and B#, and my reply to the poster, and canudigit's reply to my reply.

but how do you commit it to finger memory
I like to play an exercise with the circle forward and backward like forward it would be
C F Bb Eb Ab Db F# B E A D G C of course there are inharmonic equivalents with Bb(A#) Eb(D#) Ab(G#) Db(C#) and F#(Gb) but you get used to the sound of playing in forths or 5ths Jimmy Hendrix like it so much he wrote a big hit useing the cycle(or circle) of 5ths exclusively remember HEY JOE? C G D A E over and over 
The circle of fifths is the only tattoo I've ever considered. I'd put it on the inside of my left forearm. Permanent cheat sheet.

opps I stand corrected I never was a Hendrix buff but I like many was amazed at his ability thanks for the correction

I don't mean to nit-pick the details but I'm a Hendrix history freak.........Actually Jimi didn't write "Hey Joe". Billy Roberts, a member of a Los Angeles garage band named "The Leaves" penned this tune. ( copyright 1962 ) Jimi and Chas Chandler( producer) named Roberts the writer of this tune on the b-side of "Stone-Free" released in 1966.

and johncross21, I know this is an obvious statement but the " hands on" approach is the almost always the best. That and printing yourself a little wallet sized copy of the wheel(circle) and look at it when you have a few minutes during the course of the day.
