Topic: Alt Rock suggestions

Old guy here (33). I love playing acoustic at the local coffee shop but the songs I play are mostly 60-90's (Beatles/Cream/Green Day/Nirvana/Cure). I recently got turned on to some new stuff (Dresden Dolls - Sing) by a 17yo guitarist. Almost everything he played was stuff I'd never heard before. Pretty much everyone under 23 knew all his songs but none of mine. Can anyone give me a few suggestions to freshen up my play list? Thanks! - Shane

Re: Alt Rock suggestions

There's nothing wrong with the songs you are playing. If these youngsters know music then they'll know Beatles/Green Day/Nirvana/ and such things. If they don't, then there's something wrong with their music knowledge not yours.

If these guys are regulars then get talking to them. Find out what they're listening to. Maybe change your radio station or watch the music channels more often. I can't claim to be up with what the 15-25 year olds are all listening to, but I do like to have the occassional listen and I'm always on the lookout for new things to listen to.

Also have a look through the Public Books section of Chordie. There are loads of collections that folk have made available to browse. I usually find something interesting in there when I'm stuck.

Cheers
