Topic: Guitar cases

My kids got me a guitar for moms day but I don't have a case for it. Can I get one of the soft cases of would I be better off getting a hard case?

Re: Guitar cases

Hi Shasta,

I have an OSP hard case and I love it. It's not one of those chipboard cases, I hate those. It's a hard plastic case lined w soft furry fabric. I got mine on ebay. If I ever get another guitar i'm getting another OSP for it.

Re: Guitar cases

Shastawolf welcome to Chordie and when it comes down to what kind of case it really depends on what kind of guitar and if you plan on moving around with it a lot like playing gigs then the hard case would offer more protection for the wear and tear but if you are only going to play it at home or relatives a soft case will do its your choice if you have the money to spend buy a hard case it really comes down to choice smile

Re: Guitar cases

Hi! Congrats on the kids getting you a Guitar for Mom's day! I'm not a moderator but do wish to welcome you to Chordie...lots of really good folks here and lots of great info!

I don't particularly care for the soft case but they do offer some protection and have pockets for accessories and stuff for "light" duty. At home I usually leave my guitars on wall hangers or a stand. Course if you have small kids then leaving your guitar on a stand can be risky. If you travel with your guitar then a hard shell case is essential...especially if flying.

For economy sake you can check your local pawn shops for cases. One of ours will often have a box full of soft cases for $5 to $10 dollars and Hard shell cases for a little more...

Re: Guitar cases

Welcome to Chordie! A softcase will keep the dust off  but that's about it... I'd recommend a hardcase if you can swing it. Something like this would be fine http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/ … sku=540945  I ordered the tweed model for my nephew a few months back. I was very impressed with the quality for the money! Sturdy, tight fitting, nice lining and well insulated for the cost. A hardcase will protect it from bumps, extreme temperature/humidity changes, and if you'll wipe it down thoroughly and keep it in it when you're not playing, you won't have to change strings nearly as often.  Chipboard cases are okay but I'd recommend adding a little extra padding (like microfiber cloths) to avoid finish rubs and they don't insulate/stabilize the guitar as well.
