Topic: Mentors! Who would you most love to play with or as good as?

We all all have mentors. Musicians we would love to play as well as, or have the chance to play with. I thought that this would expose others to artists that they would not otherwise be exposed to. I guess that we could all name at least a dozen yet there are two that I admire greatly. If I was to master the guitar as they have, I would be on a world tour.

I would probably have to say Buddy Guy, Segovia, Brian Setzer (probably spelled wrong) doing some swing, nand of course Slash who is the guy that made me want to play to begin with.

"Nobody paints by ear so why would I play guitar by sight?" hmm

Re: Mentors! Who would you most love to play with or as good as?

Well, if the sky's the limit, I would have to say Eric Clapton and/or Stevie Ray Vaughn! For the Acoustic side, I would love to learn from James Taylor!

Re: Mentors! Who would you most love to play with or as good as?

I agree I would have James Tayler also, along with mason williams, jim croce and joe walsh.

Hi,

For Acoustic Guitar it must Tommy Emmanuel. The Guy's talent is awesome. Check out this Utube vid.

WOW I just took a look at Tommy Emmanuel and he's a great musician and preformer. That's what I was saying about being exposed to people we wouldn't have the chance to see or hear. Thanks Arkady.

Re: Mentors! Who would you most love to play with or as good as?

Mike Peters(The Alarm)

His accoustic style is fairly simple but very very effective.

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

Re: Mentors! Who would you most love to play with or as good as?

Id like to play as good as Tom Morello so i could make all those sounds. Also to be as good as Jimmy page would be cool. Id like to jam with Eddie Hazel from Funkadelic!!!

Re: Mentors! Who would you most love to play with or as good as?

I See nobody mentioned Doc or Merle Watson, Leo Kottke, Chet Atkins, or Sierra Hull. All fine flat pickers who I would love to play with and learn from.

I just wanted to add one more artist to my list, I hope I don't get killed for this one but for folk music John Denver has to be pretty high on the list.

I think you are right about John Denver. He has brought folk music to the masses. Even if it is a somewhat watered down style. As an interpretor of folk he has had a long run.

I would list Woodie and Arlo Gutherie in the folk catagory as well as Peter Paul and Mary, Tom Paxton.

Re: Mentors! Who would you most love to play with or as good as?

Right now I'd settle for being as good as David Bowie....I'm making headway into Space Oddity at the moment. So If I was as good as him I'd have it nailed.

I'd love to be able to play with a great many guitar players; Clapton, Page, Keef, Townshend(of course), Frusciante, or any one of the old Blues legends....the list is endless.

Right now though the one I'd want to play with is Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers. I aint saying he's the best guitarist out there, but I'm listening too a lot of SLF at the moment, so he gets the nod.

Acoustic? I'd probably want to sit and play 'Wild Wood' or perhaps Shadow of your Sun' with Paul Weller.
