Topic: Muzac versions??

OK may sound strange, but I'm sure you will get it.
New to guitar (5-6 months)...can play open chords fairly well try to avoid the tough ones :-)
I want to play songs that can be recognized as the song, not necessarily the accompy (I would call it a Muzak version).
A good example would be the beginner version of Hotel California - can be recogonized as Hotel California, not needing the vocals to pull it out. (Is this because it is such a recognizable tune?) Van Morrison Brown Eyed Girl seems to work also.
Also, when I see the chords above the songs, how do I know what strum pattern to use.
Everything I do seems to end up sounding like a very close copy of everything else.
I guess I am just looking for the next steps.
Thanks!

Hi Bushman and welcome to chordie!

I had to reply because I posted a very similar topic a long while back using the same example (Hotel California). Maybe the old topic will give you some ideas:

Also, check out the sticky topic in chat where Pix has posted video strumming patterns on many beginner type songs:

Vary your strumming, learn a few lead licks, hum or sing along. Most importantly, hang in there and continue you practice, I assure you it gets better. smile

Rule No. 1 - If it sounds good - it is good!
