Topic: BOSS RC-20XL

My new pedal was delivered today and this is going to take a little study to get comfy with I just unpacked it and put the batteries in they will do till I get the adapter next week, one of the nice features is it had two inputs for mic and guitar which means I can use my 4 channel mixer to plug in my bass and drum effects unit looks like I will be busy learning the basic functions but I think it wont be to long till I find my way around it. I do have a choice of useing the octave function for bass but I prefer a real bass sound so I'm having a spare mic stand fitted with a holder for the bass so I can just walk over and lay down a bass line this looks like a pleasant challenge so for the next days I will be kicking the tires so to speak and make a video when I feel confident I know my way around it smile

Be sure to report when you're done "playing". Don't forget it's almost Summer out there...don't forget to get outside!!!!!!

Geo its been kinda cool here but warmer weather is coming and I do intend to take advantage of the sunshine being retired I have the luxury and time to do what I want and when, mostly I will practice in the evening with this new gear I dont watch a lot of TV so the only distraction will be my online chess games but Ive put a hold on them I will be concentrating on my new equipment and I will be picking up a FS-6 which is essential for selecting the phrases I wish to loop or playback without bending over to turn the knob.this is all new to me but I did practice with it today and managed to get a rudimentary recording and with time and practice I will get a lot smoother smile

Re: BOSS RC-20XL

Awesome!! Congrats on the acquisition!!! I've got my pennies saving up for an RC-2 myself.
They're awesome units and those loop stations are just total inspirations for creativity!

When you get comfortable using it, I'd love to hear a sample of one of your creations!

Re: BOSS RC-20XL

DT I will be posting a video sample very soon! I jammed for 3 hrs tonight and tomorrow I will start adding bass and rhythm along with vocals it takes a little getting used to quantizing which is playing enough bars and recording the next part but it dont sound to bad already but when I launch this video I want it to be a solid arrangement so I'm going to work on it till it is,like the old saying "you never get a second chance to make a first impression" keep ya all posted smile

Re: BOSS RC-20XL

Well it took some time to get comfortable but I'm making progress the RC lets you record an entire progression then loops the whole thing back so you can add bass, rhythm or keys and the way I have it setup is I use a 4 channel mixer my strat plugs into my ME-50 and into one of the mixer channels the bass, acoustic and aleses rhythm plug into the remaining channels from there they go into the instrument input in the loop pedal the mic runs into a digitech vocalist and into the mic input on the pedal (lots of chords) and out to the amp, right now I'm only useing a small 30 watt ampeg for practice I have been looking at several pa's that are compact and extremely lightweight Yamaha makes one with two speakers on stands it weighs only 40 lbs total and sells for around $600 if I can find one that meets these specs cheaper I will buy it but that wont be for a few months by then I will have enough songs to do a few sets so there's no hurry I will be uploading a video next week to my myspace site useing the RC-20XL should be fun smile

Re: BOSS RC-20XL

This is the PA I purchased its a Fender Squier 4 80watts and 2 12 in speakers I also ordered some poles for mounting the PA cost me $270.00 and comes with a microphone and speaker chords it has reverb and four channels more then enough power to play small gigs it ships next tuesday and I am still working on set lists and how best to use the loop station I ordered a FS-5 pedal to switch phrases without having to bend over hope my neighbors dont mind a little music early at night (they wont) cant wait to get started smile

Re: BOSS RC-20XL

Good and bad news, the squire PA was not in stock and I would have to wait 2 weeks to get one or the music store could sell me another brand for around $300.00 so I went shopping on the internet at musicians friend and came across a Phonic Powerpod 410/S710 PA for $199.00 includes shipping and taxes it has the same setup as the Squier including speaker cables and a mic with a mic cable it puts out 80W and peaks at 160 so I snached it up and its on the way this is a link to a photo of it smile

Re: BOSS RC-20XL

DT my first gig is tomorow at 1pm a house party on the lake my pa was shipped today and it wont get here in time but im going to use a small amp the loop pedal and my acoustic with a mic and keep it simple they like the song 'Edmond Fitzgerald' and Jimmy Bufffet and some Neil Young so I should be ok its only a 1 hr gig and pays 50 bucks plus food and drink but I most likely will book some future gigs from the contacts and its been a while since I was in the saddle so this is a good warmup smile

Re: BOSS RC-20XL

Hi Russ
Hope your gig goes ok.
Coming out of retirement must be a bit daunting but I know you don't lack confidence..:)

Re: BOSS RC-20XL

Thanks Ark and confidence is not one of the things I lack to be sure, I still have some work to do on humility and common sense tho lol
