"Cause it's a bittersweet
symphony, this life.
Trying to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die."

I like it..cause it's so depressingly true.

Re: What's your favourite line in a song ever?

Man, this is tough...

The first that comes to mind is this line from "Fire Water Burn" by The Bloodhound Gang

"But if I go to hell then I hope I burn well,
I'll spend my days with J.F.K., Marvin Gaye, Martha Raye, and Lawrence Welk,
And Kurt Cobain, Kojak, Mark Twain and Jimi Hendrix's poltergeist,
And Webster yeah Emmanuel Lewis cause he's the anti-christ"

(Hope that's not too much?)

Not sure why.... But I always loved that lyric smile There's a few good lines in that song. Here's a link to the censored version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXdLpjmk … re=related

'Serves Me Right To Suffer', the name says it all on that one. There's something more ironic and painful about the blues when its all your fault, and that song's a great example of how a simple statement can make such an emotional impact.... to me anyway.

Re: What's your favourite line in a song ever?

I have lots of favorites...here's just one by Gnarls Barkley's "Does That Make Me Crazy":

I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that phase
........
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

Re: What's your favourite line in a song ever?

One more by Roger Waters "Hello (I Love You)":

The ghosts are walking by my side
I feel their love, I feel their pride
For I have built a bridge or two,
Bridges between me and you

"The World is your Oyster, but your future's a Clam."

The Jam, taken off the single "When you're young."

"And on payday, we'll tear the place down.
With a pint, in our hand's, and a bash 'em out band.
Sure we'll dance, to the sound, of the rain falling down.
In our Northern Industrial Town."

and another jam one

If people were meant to live in boxes god would have given them string
to tie around themselves at bedtime, stop their dreams falling through the ceiling.

Re: What's your favourite line in a song ever?

Ace stuff.  Weller was literally just a kid when he was writing all that stuff as well Ken.

"Whispers in the shadows - gruff blazing voices, hating, waiting.
Hey boy they shout - have you got any money?
And I said, I've a little money, and a takeaway curry, I'm on the way home to my Wife.  She'll be lining up the cutlery, you know she's expecting me.
Polishing the glasses and pulling out the cork.
I'm down in the Tube-Station at midnight."

Saw The Jam at the Liverpool Empire in 1978 when I were a youth.  On their Apocalypse tour.

The love affair has never left me since that night bud.

Re: What's your favourite line in a song ever?

A favorite today, because I'm in a silly mood...

From Jim Croce's Roller Derby Queen,
"She was built like a 'frigerator with a head"

And another because I have to sing it so often.  From the lullaby I sing each night to my girls, which is John McCutcheon's Featherbed:
"If I was a hair ribbon, and my color it was blue, I'd be ten times as beautiful 'cause I'd be wearing you."

"I got tears in my ears from lying on my back, crying my eyes out over you."

"How can I miss you if you won't leave?"

"You ripped my heart out and stomped a mudhole in it."

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
Ya'll wanna go down to the Guf?

Re: What's your favourite line in a song ever?

And a man comes on the television telling me "how white my shirts can be, but I can't be a man because he does'nt smoke the same cigarettes as me."  *Rolling Stones*from "Satisfaction"

Re: What's your favourite line in a song ever?

Wow... where do I start.

I'm tryin' to remember words to a song nobody wrote
--Jamey Johnsons; That Lonesome Song

She came straight from Heaven, but I know the Devil did, too.
--Trent Tomlinsons; Angels Like Her

Walkin' to the south, out of Roanoake I caught a trucker outta Philly, had a nice long toke, he's headed west from the Cumberland Gap to Johnson City Tennessee...
--Old Crow Medicine Shows; Wagon Wheel

She's a devils angel on a midnight flight, lookin' for lost souls like the one you are tonight
--Buck and Dukes; Devils Angel

I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die...
--The Man in Black

Who's gonna fill their shoes, who's gonna stand that tall?
--George Jones'; Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes

I could go on and on and on.... but, that'll do for now.

Welcome to Chordie Scooter.  With a handle like that, and whose lyrics you chose to put up, there's not a lot of guesswork in your favorite style of music.
