Topic: Hope it Works this Time!

Hello Everyone,

I just got an email from my Daughter and she wants to take another stab at playing guitar.I think she must be serious this time,she's getting her fake nails taken off.I started her with lessons with an instructor about 11 yrs ago,she's 21 now.
  A couple months ago I sent her guitar home with her and a tuner and all the accessories she needed and she never mentioned anything about being interested till now.She has a couple of friends that are very good musicians and she must have got the bug.
It comes really easy for her and she wants me to help her so that is kinda flattering,but in my excitement to help I don't want to scare her away.
   We live almost 400 miles apart so when she lets me know where she wants to start I am gonna do some things on Youtube and through emails to help her as much as I can.What a wonderful tool computers,internet and youtube can be it sure does shorten up distances.
   I have a few videos on youtube and what has been the most surprising and pleasant is the many nice comments,especially from folks from across the pond.It sure opens your eyes to the world.

That's great Wayne! I have a few friends from around the world that I play with online and that may be an option for you as well. If you have a messenger service, like yahoo messenger, you can do a pc to pc call for audio and then activate your webcams for a video feed. This way it's almost like sitting across from one another. You get to see and hear the other person and it's all free! If you're not familier with this and are interested just let me know and maybe I can carry you through the steps and we'll even give it a quick test run, so that you and her can make use of it.  Best of luck and I hope she sticks with it. -Pix

Heya Pix,

  I will have to check that out,I am not to good with computers and gadgets but I'll bet I can figure it out in time.It took me forever to figure out the program I use for vids but it was worth the effort. I am still working on the audio on my vids and just can't seem to get them right.I have some new ideas I'm gonna try today.

Wayne, Just to help you out if you want to try it....

All you have to do is type in Yahoo messenger download and then download it. It's quick, easy, and free. Once it's downloaded it will add all your contacts from your mail files, so she should already show up for you. Just click on her name and you're instant messaging (as long as she has installed it also).

The screen will look similar to this

Once you're connected you just click the webcam button at the top and you have a video link. Click the mic/voice icon and you have audio feed. On some versions this will show up as a phone/pc to pc call icon... It's really that easy to have a live video and audio link to teach through... -Pix

   My messenger name for Yahoo is "paintermanone" I used it before I got back into guitar... I have an easel in the corner of the music room wink Me and the wife are both into art. I do a lot of sketching, charcoal rubs, and painting. Just an old hobby from the college days when I was really into it. The wife is a better painter though... She has turned her hobby into a nice little side business of painting custom murals.

Hi Wayne,

  Don't forget to introduce her to Chordie as well..... so we can straighten out any confusions you may instill. LOL

  Googletalk is another option with video conferencing capabilities, so you might be able to do some face to face teaching (depending on your connection speeds).  400 miles is just a nanosecond away these days!
