Learn really cool songs that people aren't too familiar with...that way they won't be comparing your sound with what they hear on the radio.
Try the finger tapping on Eddie van Halen's Eruption, it was originally what he played to warm up. It's got to be one of his easiest solo's but most recognizable.
Stupid thing about songs that people like...
If you don't like em too you won't remember them.
