Topic: Great Gitane Jazz/Jean Baptiste Reinhardt (DJANGO) Site

I was doing a search for someone who wanted some songs by Gypsy, came across this one and remembered that there was someone a few weeks back who wanted Django's Honeysuckle Rose.

After putting that person in the frame seemed a shame to drop the link, so.....................

34 looks and no comments.

Is this a good site or am I on me own?

kajiMa I checked the link and most of the members do not read notation and it is a good site and your not on your own its just as simple as that, Django was an incredible musician but his music lives on as I have seen some videos on Youtube and listened to some of his old recordings smile

Re: Great Gitane Jazz/Jean Baptiste Reinhardt (DJANGO) Site

Hey Russ.

I only found out recently that "I Arise" (French Gitane (Gypsy) definition of "Django") was credited with inventing Lead Guitar. Although I'd heard of him I came across his music late and was more familiar with the music of Stephan Grappelli away from Hot Club.

Django was an incredible man as well as a guitarist; not only did he play nearly everything with only 2 fingers on his left hand but he only avoided the holocaust (which included gypsies) because of a German officer whom French people named "Dr Jazz" who valued what the French had done with this musical form and wanted to preserve its' exponents.

As far as the music on the site goes, most of it's in TAB, those that have notation have TAB too!

I keep telling myself that I'll learn "Minor Swing," spend 2 minutes fiddling then give up.

I must apply meself!

Glad you checked the site out Russ, thanks for that! cool

Re: Great Gitane Jazz/Jean Baptiste Reinhardt (DJANGO) Site

KajiMa I would hazard to guess that the tabs would be as difficult as notation perhaps even more so,I read fingerpicking notation which is kind of like reading a piano chart with two parts moving independently I tried and I gave up on tabs, reading notation was hard enough smile
