Topic: TO FAKE or not to FAKE

About 2 years ago, there was a GIBSON plague on the internet.
You could buy the so called real "GIBSON"for 2$ and 205$ TRANSPORT. Amazing, and I ordered one. A few weeks later she arrived at my place.
- Quality = not bad. An AAAA top, a real beautiful guitar, one of the most perfect top, only to compare with a GIBSON LES PAUL SUPREME, talking about looks.
- Playing = not that good having a buzz sound coming out of my amp.
- Satisfaction = 50%.
- I see that the prices are going up from 1$ over 50$ and over 200-300$. Most of these guitars were for sale between 1$ and 100$, a price who is a lot higher.
- I wanted to keep that guitar, transport included 251$, and change the pick ups by EMG. An acquaintance wanted that guitar, even after telling him that that guitar was from China. He gave me 400$ for it, he wanted to pay up to 750$, and he sais that it is the best guitar he ever got, after changing the humbuckers and replace them by EMG'S I must admit for a 1$ guitar, the  sound was great.

Re: TO FAKE or not to FAKE

I was tempted to buy some fake Gibsons at a Guitar show a while back and use for "project" guitars...then I decided that I don't want to support an illicit industry...

Middleaged Redneck sorta guy who refuses to grow up...passion for music, especially Southern Rock but like bout everything cept Gangsta/Hip Hop. Collect guitars, mandolins, and love to ride Harleys.

Lol, almost anything sounds good with EMG pickups in it...

I believe the plague is over and they start more to have their own websites example: 2 links.

Some of these guitars are amazing, a great guitar body, and some are even more attractive then a genuine Gibson. I had one, but a friend wanted that guitar. She even sounded great but you had to take more distance from your amp to avoid "horrible noises" He phoned me, mailed me all to buy that Gibson AND THIS ONLY BECAUSE OF THE NAME + THE AUDIENCE SEEING HIM PLAY A "FOR HIM REAL GIBSON" and finally I sold her, repeating time after time that it was a fake. I had an 100$ profit and he, 2 years later is still happy. He replaced the pick ups by DiMarzio I think, and the noise was gone.

Re: TO FAKE or not to FAKE

Some of the copies are pretty darn good. I've never been snobby about what to play. I have a Agile Les Paul copy that I think is every bit as good as the Gibsons I've played. And I think it's better than the Epiphones with respect to craftmanship and sound. I disagree with mislabeled or misleading headstock decals and I don't want my Agile to say Gibson; it's an Agile and I'm fine with that. For me it's all about how does it play and sound, I care very little about what the head stock decal reads. No disrespect to Gibson or Fender but some of their products simply are not worth the money. Play a Agile 3100 and a Les Paul Studio and tell me the Gibson is 5 times better because they are 5 times the price. Better yet wear a blindfold and tell me which one is the Gibson!!!!

I used to be disgusted; now I try to be amused.

Re: TO FAKE or not to FAKE

Why always the brand? I have 3 PRS EG guitars, pick-ups
1) s - s- s(ingle) coils, FRALIN, plays even better than a Fender, we tested it many times.
2) s - s - h(umbucker)
3) h - s - h
They were produced ONLY FROM 1990 - 1992, except one 1990-1995. When I bought them on eBay the price asked was between 800$ & 1100$ Try to find one now, and if, well the price is 1400$ = good investment. Here a picture:
