Topic: Place Names.

Picking up on Zurf's comment's about Kentucky's place names being odd. He quotes  "Frog Stomp, Kentucky and Frozen Head State Park."



We have a few interesting names. Try the following

Ahoghill ( pronounced "a (clear-your-throat) hill ") which in Irish means Ford of the Yew Trees.

Culleybackey (pronounced as written) which in Irish means Wood of the Hollow.

We even have the original Eden ( meaning slope in Irish.).

My buddy in Pennsylvania used to have a cabin in a place called Spook Hollow.  It was supposed to be haunted by the spirits of a family who were killed by Iriquios during the settlement days.  I never saw any spirits that didn't come out of a bottle.  But the name stuck.  He had a ghost cut-out of plywood nailed to the side of the privy.

We have a place near us called "Nempnet Thrubwell"

Don't know what it means, but it sounds somewhat rude and usually engenders laughter when spoken aloud.

We have an Ecum Secum, and a place called Balls Creek [good fishin hole there].
