Topic: Help with Set List

Hello All,

I have a daughter getting married in May and she has asked me to play at the wedding reception before the Headliner band of the night takes the stage.
She has requested that I play "Can't You See" by Marshall Tucker and she loves John Prine so I will play "Clay Pigeons"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwSZod4f2T8      I am just learning this one but I really like it.I need four songs so I need two more and I will be playing acoustic.

Suggestions Please,I just can't make my mind up.

Re: Help with Set List

Congrats Wayne!

If you want something sappy - This is the tune my wife calls "our song" - She got the title engraved inside my wedding ring. Pretty easy to play and sing. Edwin McCain - Could Not ask For More.

Songs in my songbook I won't be doing . Rodeo Song,Up Against the Wall Red Neck Mother, Take a Walk on the Wild Side,I Love This Bar,and a whole lot of drinkin and dopin songs I do.

Thanks Again

Wayne,
If you can hold it together, this'd be a great tune for your special little gal.

Re: Help with Set List

Hey Thanks Toney and Roger,

I am gonna take a stab at it,I'm not a great singer so I'll have to see if it fits, that's what I'm lookin for some options and then try them out on my wife.

Love of a Lifetime by FireHouse sounds really good done acoustic.

Re: Help with Set List

I played Bruce Springsteens, If I Should Fall Behind at my daughters wedding last March and everyone loved it.  It's perfect for a wedding.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Jeez Toney, I struggled to keep it together just listening to it. And my daughter's only 12. Lovely little song.

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

Re: Help with Set List

A great song, but I don't know where you would get all the horses.

Re: Help with Set List

May I suggest that you also avoid "Send in the Clowns"?  "The Beauty and the Beast" may be a poor choice.

"Forever and Ever Amen" or "Deeper than the Hollow" are good easy-going love songs that may be appropriate if you like Country.  Johnny Cash's "Flesh and Blood" may work too.

Re: Help with Set List

I love "Can't you see".  It's in my "tunes to do" binder.  A good finger picking piece!

Re: Help with Set List

I think I'v heard the usual suspects at the weddings that I've been to.

Since you've asked..............Judy Collins
In my life.........The Beatles
I will...........The Beatles
I will always love you..............Whitney Houston
The wind beneath my wings....... (I can't remember who)
You are so beautiful..........Joe Cocker

At our wedding, my wife and I had a segment of the Brandenburg Concerto played for the entrance theme.  And the reception was a very small intimate, sit down, eat, greet, goodbye and enjoy a fine April day.  (Morning wedding, early afternoon reception)

Re: Help with Set List

wlbaye,
I have played many weddings and usually find the bride wants to make a statement with the music she selects. And she does the choosing.
You should be aware that having you open the music part of the celebration shows her great devotion to you and regard for your musical gift.
Don't worry about "sappy". It's all about her and any sincere effort you make to please her will reap big rewards.

Please tell us how it went.
Dennis

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
Ya'll wanna go down to the Guf?

Indeed, good luck and best wishes to you and the bride on the big day!

Re: Help with Set List

I'm guessing her generation listened to this and it might strike a chord.   The tabs are here and not too hard.

I think I can find the horses but I'm having trouble finding enough fiddlers,it's hard enough just finding one.
