Topic: Mary Anne's Grave.

Hi,

This is the song version of a poem I posted some time ago. It's deliberately simple to play.

The Chords are played moving just the index finger. So you play a regular D, then for G you move the index finger to play B (on the A string) - keep going back and forward until you hit A7sus4  by moving your index finger to the E ( on the D string).

Now for the purists and the strummers, technically I should play G by playing bottom G ( on the E string) and remove my finger  from the F ( on the top E string) when playing A7sus4, but, because I'm cross-picking, I don't have to.

Great song, Alan! Ilove the delivery of the words, they fit the song very well. I also liked "guitar on my coat" Is that one posted on Chordie?, Opps! I just saw it, sorry about that.

hi alan,

when i listened to your recordings, this is the one i liked best, maybe because of the song or because the subject interested me?
i like story songs and this is so descriptive and somehow manages to take you there...i like that too!

Hi Phill,

Yes, lament is the right word. It's straight out of that old line of Irish immigration songs. There are thousands of them ( Check out Spancil Hill with Christy Moore and the Pogues at -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iUEwB4M … re=related ).

As far as i can see the difference with Mary Anne's Grave is that one person has returned, leaving a loved one in a grave overseas.
