Topic: Strange Eric Clapton chords?

Hi, I'm a beginner and can't find the following chords used by Eric Clapton in "If I could change the world":
Bb, Eb, Bb7, C6, Dm7, G#A, G#7, G#, G#M
If they don't exist and this is a stupid question, please excuse this newbie-wannabe hmm
Thanks.

Russel, thanks for the reply smile

I've been working off that chart and only then posted my request. I still can't find them... hmm or is there a sub level to the chart that I can't see? I know you can click on a chord to see other methods of playing it, but I'm still stumped by the following:

Bb, Eb [can only find Eb(add9)], Bb7, C6, G#A, G#7, G#, G#m

Any guidance/references/pointers or guides to other help files will be highly appreciated.

Re: Strange Eric Clapton chords?

Hi mmyburgh and welcome to Chordie,

As a beginner you may not know but Bb is also A#. So if you have three notes A ? B the midway question mark note which is higher that A can be called A# but it is lower than B so it can also be called Bb, whether it is shown as a sharp or a flat depends on the key you are playing in. It can be rather confusing but in time you get used to it.

The notes run like this:

A
A# or Bb
B
C
C# or Db
D
D# or Eb
E
F
F# or Gb
G
G# or Ab

So -

for Bb look at A#
for Eb look at D#
for Bb7 look at A#7

The Chordie chart shows sharps and not flats however some of the chords you are looking for are not there so have a look at: http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/index.php here you can signify what chord you want and you can get several different ways of playing it.

I hope that helps,

Roger

Re: Strange Eric Clapton chords?

There is a free program called Guitar Alchemist it has over 1000 different ways to make chords from open to the 12th fret, this program also tells you the intervals to make the chord like 1 3 5,for major or 1 3b 5 for minor it has virtually every chord you will ever use added to this is the scales for Lydian pentatonic mixolydian etc. and it also plays the chords with whatever sound you like from keyboard to guitar and its totally free I think there is a link somewhere in the theory section but if you type in "Guitar Alchemist" in the google search it will take you to the download page, the program takes very little space and loads fast give it a try I think you will like it I have this program and its great for teaching my students smile

Wow! Thanks both Roger and Russel! Great info and just the boost I need to feel more enthusiastic again! big_smile I'm starting to think going it alone is maybe not the option for me. Will start looking for some tutors around my area.
