Topic: Small hands!

Hi fellow strummers!

I took up playing about a year ago, my problem is that I have tiny hands. I have a 3/4 size acoustic but still impossible to achieve certain chords. My cousin is a guitarist (was in Speedurchin and Dog Piss) and he can't even push my fingers down for me.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Would an electric be easier as a thinner neck or does anyone have any songs to suggest for me to play without the stretching?

All comments gratefully recieved!

Re: Small hands!

Pocket Em you could always give slide guitar a try just tune the strings to a chord and use a slide to find the notes no pressure on the strings is required lots of fun once you get the hang of it smile

Re: Small hands!

Keep practicing, and it will come.  If anything, get a wider necked guitar to force your hands to stretch.  Get your thumb on the back of the neck, and your wrist way out in front.

And if you think you still can't do it, check in with this kid, and see how your hands compare to his.

Re: Small hands!

I have small hands too and find some things just impossible. But you DO find ways around them. Keep at it and I'm sure it'll all come together.

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

Welcome to Chordie.  Keep playin what you can.

In time you'll come to like a wider neck, but if you have trouble reaching you'll find a Takamine brand has a very thin neck.  It's definitely an easier reach.   Also, put a capo on and play the song in a different key further up the neck.  That should help some as well.
