Topic: That damn high E snapped again!!!!!!!!!

The only string that always pops is my high E string!! It's annoying when I just put a new set or the set of strings is still good but I have to change them all because of one snapped string. Does anyone know if single strings are sold, so that I could buy like 20 single High E strings, cuz that's the only one that pops!!

Re: That damn high E snapped again!!!!!!!!!

Some places will sell a single string but I'm more concerned about why it is breaking. I can't remember the last time I actually broke a string. Sometimes a guitar will have a rough spot on the bridge or nut...or might need some lubrication. Are you doing any aggressive whammy bar or extreme tuning? If you watch a video of Stevie Ray Vaughn or Van Halen play then you can get a good idea of how much abuse strings can take on a properly set up guitar...

Well this last time I was doing some stupid hard strumms while playing I wanna be sedated by the ramones. But I normally take good care not to strumm on my electric cuz I usually try to only do solos on my electric, I do alot of bending but oddly they don't pop when I'm playing. THis usually happens when wipping down my strings or cleaning my fret board or some miscellaneous activity or once in a while while actually tuning I'll over tighten(Dohh). But Regardless how they pop I would really like to purchase single strings!!!!!!!!

What gauge has your high E-string? And yes, in quit some stores they sell strings without buying a new string. But:
1) you have to visit a lot of stores
2) About the quality? The age? I bought different strings, NOT a set, in a store in Dublin. Dozens of single strings, and sometimes you have an entire set, and the only string you need and find is the high E, gauge 0.9 BUT they only have a .10, I did buy the .10 I don't think it will make a lot of difference, concerning the sound.
Maybe you can look for "1 string only"

Re: That damn high E snapped again!!!!!!!!!

You can buy single strings on line at www.musiciansfriend.com  They have a wide variety of gauges to choose from. I would look closely at where that string is breaking for a sharp spot or burr. I usually over tighten a new set of strings to get them to stretch and have never broken one(although I have had strings break during playing). It could be that you are maybe using cheap strings or that the sweat from your fingers and possibly dirt on your fretboard are causing the high E to corrode faster than the other strings.

Re: That damn high E snapped again!!!!!!!!!

Well, you can go out and buy a bazzillion single E strings, or you can address the source of the problem and not worry about it anymore (and spend less money too).  Your call.  But, if they're always breaking at the same place, take it in to a tech and explain the problem; it probably won't cost you more than a set of strings to fix.
