Topic: "Looking Back in Time"

I was just strumming and got to thinking about the past and one thing led to another.

Looking Back in Time By Jeff Gilpin

February 4th, 2009

Verse 1

[G]Looking [D]back in [C]time

[G]Happenings from long a[D]go

[G]Flipping through [D]old faded [C]memories

[G]I can’t [D]seem to let [G]go [D]

Verse 2

[G]Dusting off [D]what’s near for[C]gotten

Re[G]freshing the picture in my [D]mind

[G]Memories good [D]bad and down [C]trodden

[G]None I want [D]to leave be[G]hind [G7]

Chorus

[D]Times with friends and [C]love ones

[G]I can’t seem to for[D]get

Have a [G]hold on me [D]I just can’t [C]shake off

Or at [G]least haven’t [D]managed to [G]yet [D]

Verse 3

[G]Some are [D]dear to my [C]memories

[G]Me and my dogs just sitting at [D]home

[G]Others like [D]opening [C]still tender wounds

Needing [G]healing [D]before they're [G]gone [D]

Verse 4

[G]All are [D]lessons life’s [C]given

[G]Taught while guided me [D]on

To [G]my far [D]off gradu[C]ation

That [G]diploma you [D]get when you’re [G]gone [G7]

Chorus

[D]Times with friends and [C]love ones

[G]I can’t seem to for[D]get

Have a [G]hold on me [D]I just can’t [C]shake off

Or at [G]least haven’t [D]managed to [G]yet [D]

Verse 5

[G]I wish I [D]knew why I [C]do it

My [G]mind wants to wander [D]so

Re[G]membering [D]stories from [C]my life

[G]Guess [D]I'll never [G]know[D]

Verse 6

[G]Smiling [D]my mind's seeing [C]memories

[G]All those times warm my [D]soul

[G]Stories long [D]gone not for[C]gotten

[G]Collecting more [D]before I [G]go [G7]

Chorus

[D]Times with friends and [C]love ones

[G]I can’t seem to for[D]get

Have a [G]hold on me [D]I just can’t [C]shake off

Or at [G]least haven’t [D]managed to [C]yet [G]

Re: "Looking Back in Time"

Hi Jeff
I know where you are coming from. I find myself "Looking Back in Time" a lot now a days and wondering of the paths life has taken with me.

It's good to look back and learn who you are and why. smile

Thanks for this.

Re: "Looking Back in Time"

Hi Jeff,

Memories and reminiscing are wonderful medicine so I enjoyed playing this song. Mind you I did alter 'Me and my dogs...' to 'Me and my cats...' so the song was more apt for me lol.

Thanks,

Roger

Re: "Looking Back in Time"

hi jeff

i get a lot of inspiration from "looking back" so there's nothing wrong in that...is there?
"memories good bad and down-trodden" sums it all up i think.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: "Looking Back in Time"

Thanks Roger and Phil - Yeah, seems the older I get the more looking back I do. BTW - my CD project is getting close 4 down, 3 almost, and 3 that need a lot of work. I got an unusual question after a receint session where we got the drum tracks down. What do I want to do after I'm done with the CD? My answer was that I hadn't thought that far ahead.

Take care,

Jeff
