Topic: Fearless

[SONG]
{t:Fearless}

[G]It's not that long since you left
but you'd been g[E7]one for a while
it was [C]hard to see you fall so far
and be un[D]able to stop the slide
[G]The one thing that I've wished for
in the d[E7]ays since you've been gone
is that you [C]knew we were with you
and that your m[D]emory will live on
{soc}
[G]I hope that you were fearless
[D]as time ran out on you
[C]we couldn't change this ending
[D]there was nothing we could do
[G]just know that you were loved
[D]when all was said and done
[C]I'm glad that we were friends
[D]and I'm proud to be your son
{eoc}
[G]She tried her best to help you
from the s[E7]tart right to the end
but you were [C]too far in to realise
too fr[D]agile to break the trend
[G]Her bad memories will fade in time
leaving the [E7]good ones in their place
They'll h[C]elp her to get through this
and put a s[D]mile back on her face

{c:Chorus}

[C]I never t[D]hought, I'd be si[G]nging a song like t[Am7]his
[C]I never wan[D]ted, to see her pla[G]cing her last k[Am7]iss
[C]I always h[D]oped, you'd win the f[G]ight and change your w[Am7]ays
[C]but you lost, [D]now it's over, [G]we have to go on withou[Am7]t you
[C]saying goodbye [D]so early, was t[G]he hardest thing to d[Am7]o
[C]but we're strong and we'll [D]do this, another t[G]rial to get
thr[Am7]ough     [C]     [G]

[G]I'm thinking of the future
and all the [E7]things that you'll miss
You'll n[C]ever meet my children
Or h[D]ear me singing this
But every [G]now and then I'll think of you
and my [E7]face will crack a smile
Do your [C]best not to forget me
come and [D]look in for a while
{c:chorus to fade}
[/SONG]
The chord placings may be a little out, but should be more or less there.

Fairly obvious from the lyrics but this is about the recent death of my dad. Written soon after he died. Hopefully it doesn't bum too many of you guys out...but hey, it's cheaper than therapy right?!

Note to self: Must try to write something cheerier!!

All I got, is a red guitar, three chords and the truth

Re: Fearless

Well bud wiser,

That is a real tear jerker, just reading it through brought back memories of my own father who passed on fifteen years ago and a flood of emotion.

I will sing it later and let you know what I think.

Re: Fearless

bud_wiser that is an exceptionally fine lyric.  Quite an outpouring of hard truth and bittersweet beauty.  Wow . . .

I'm at work now, but shall give it a strum and a warble later.  James

Re: Fearless

Hi bud wiser,

I have just played and sang "Fearless" and I liked your song a lot, although I had to put aside emotion before starting it, and tried to be objective. I did however struggle a little with one chord and I replaced the Am7 in the bridge with Em, this is not a critism I hasten to add, but with no melody line I have to sing as I think it should be but I could not seem to get it right with Am7. I am sorry for the circumstances that led to this songs being written but it is a very good song, well done.

I would dearly love to hear you perfom it so I can sing it as it was intended.

Re: Fearless

Thank you Mark(bud wiser)

My wish has been granted and I now know how wrong my melody for this song was. Mark has in fact recorded Fearless which is a song dedicated to his father. I now understand that Mark's father was also a guitarist and that Mark is using his father's guitar for this recording. He would be very proud of you I am sure.

Re: Fearless

Mark, I very much admire the emotional heft of this song - lots of love and hope and bittersweet packed into your lyric.  I have been through a similar experience with my mother, but have yet to even try to attempt writing about it .  .  .

Look forward to hearing more of your stuff.  James
