Re: weird shaped guitars

Vox made a whole load of teardrop shaped guitars, if you cand find it the January 2008 'Guitar and Bass magazine' has a big feature on them. They also made the very futuristic 'phantom' shape. The good news is the firm's name and designs have been bought up and new teadrop guitars should be available in the next year or so.

The violin shape you are probably thinking Hofner like Paul McCartney's bass.

For truly crazy shapes you want some the 80s B C Rich guitars they made for heavy metal bands, jagged gothic curves, must have given bruises just posing for the album cover.

Just been to the B C Rich site, great 'find by shape' feature, how many other manufacturers would need that? They've also made a mega-ugly coffin shaped slab, yuk.

Re: weird shaped guitars

I'm a seaman and travel a lot, so I've just gone out and got a Hofner Shorty, one of the new re-issue ones, not an original from the eighties.  A lovely little piece of work that can come into the plane cabin with me when I fly to and from the ship!

Re: weird shaped guitars

Anything made by Danelectro...my Hodad was a fairly conventional shape, but their other guitars are weird.

Re: weird shaped guitars

A guitar can be most any shape from a flying "V" to a cigar box.
The reason for the most popular guitar shape is to have it feel almost like we're holding a woman. A nice shape if you need to hold it for four or five hours.
My Gibson 330 thin-hollow body, arch top guitar is so comfortable for me since 1968.

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
Ya'll wanna go down to the Guf?

Billy Gibbon's Gretsch is weird looking

Re: weird shaped guitars

i think the B.C. Rich guitars are kinda weird. there is a guitar at the big music store in fredericton that is shaped like a heart.

The world is only going to get worse!
