Topic: Strumming using Tab

I am new to the web site (great site as well) and forum and infact guitaring. I can read the tab but wanted to know how I know about the number of strums and if they are up or down strums needed on the music.

As this probably doesn't make too much sense I have been looking at “That's Entertainment” by The Jam and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Greenday and can work out the chords and the finger position but can't find the strumming technique.

I would appreciate it if someone can advise.

Thanks

Re: Strumming using Tab

Tab isn't going to tell you anything about rhythm.  Your strumming patterns are all going to have to be figured out by listening to the song you're trying to play, or just making it up yourself (better that way, IMO. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif" border=0 alt="Very Happy"> ).

Tab will give you "Here's where your fingers go" but not much else.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: Strumming using Tab

When we listen to a recording today, we're hearing all kinds of instruments that may or may not be what they seem. A synth guitar piece played on a keyboard can be imposible for a guitarist to duplicate. Don't get too hung up on what those "pros" do. Just experiment with strum patterns that you can fit into what sounds good to you. Thats how many new songs are written too. It all comes down to you and how you want to play a piece.
