Topic: Tabs Help!!

OK, this has probably been answered somewhere before but what the heck! I can't find an answer! hmm
Although I've been playing the guitar now for well over 30 years, I still consider myself as only just above average. It would help if I could find somewhere I could learn how to read Tabs that was explained in plain English, (I still work in feet and inches to give you some idea!):/
I love the music of Ralph Mctell, Lindisfarne, Barclay James Harvest and Jeff Lynne but struggle when I can only find tabs that I can't read. (Try to picture a simple living Yorkshireman, who's going on 50 trying to understand algebra or calculus, You'll get the idea !) roll
Any suggestions anyone? Taa! smile

I know what you mean Skipper.  If you go to your favorite search engine and key in How to read tablature, there are many sites that come up and explain it in different ways.  I hope this will help you.  It really is pretty straight forward, but can be difficult at first.

The general idea is that the tablature lines represent the strings over the fretboard, and the number over each dot represents which fret you should play.

Tabs isn't my favorite notation, as it can only convey a limited amount of information, but it's useful for helping you pick up the roots of songs.
