Topic: Busking Licence?

I know this has already been covered, but I'll ask anyway.....I live in Australia, Melbourne to be exact and Im curious if i need a licence to busk in the street. If i do how do I get one? Do I contact the local council or what? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

Re: Busking Licence?

Hi David,

I'm no pro on this, but every every city government would have their own distinct set of rules applying to buskering.I would suggest contacting your city administration to give you the answer you are looking for.
Hope this helps. smile

Seattle has the same policy, and it's ridiculous.  I have on my list of things to do "Get arrested for Busking without a License."

Re: Busking Licence?

I've never heard this term before! I know I shouldn't...But I'm "assuming" busking means playing music on a street corner. Let me know if I'm correct. Sounds just like the government though, if they can't make any money for it, then you or I shouldn't be doing it!!!

Re: Busking Licence?

Busking is the same as playin' for tips on the street . In areas that are  not regulated by public officials, respect and seniority is the rule of thumb. You don't ever want to 'invade' an area previously occupied by another musician, unless you're willing to have your instument yanked from your hands and smashed over your head. In other words, know the territory and play by the rules, or else!!!!!!

Give everything but up.

Indeed!

I think if I'm on the corner singing protest songs, I can claim 1st amendment protection.   If I stood there and gave a speech on oppressive government suppressing the arts, they couldn't do anything about it.  Put a guitar in my hands, and I'm a criminal.  Where's the sense in that?

I need my mug shot updated, anyway.  big_smile
