This is just a little modern fairy tale/song.

A Tale By Jeff Gilpin

November 28th, 2008

Verse 1

[D]Once upon a time there [Am]lived a little boy

[C]Perfectly con[G]tented with his [D]life

[D]Never had to want [Am]for a single thing

[C]Never had one [G]moment of [D]strife

[G]He didn’t know the world or the [D]troubles he would face

The [C]day he would be a grown up [D]man

But [G]ready or not life [D]finally would arrive

[C]Maybe much more [G]life than he could [D]stand

Verse 2

[D]In a far off land there [Am]lived a little girl

[C]In a farming [G]village in the [D]hills

[D]She learned early on how to [Am]work and got so strong

Still [C]life to her was [G]full of endless [D]thrills

[G]For all her life [D]she had always wanted

To [C]see what lay beyond all her valleys [D]low

The [G]rest of the world that [D]held such mystery

She [C]made her plans that [G]one day she would [D]go

Verse 3

The [D]boy’s now all grown up but in a [Am]world that’s far from simple

With res[C]ponsibili[G]ties he’s learned to [G]bear

He [D]thinks about those days when he [Am]never thought about

[C]Surviving in a [G]world that’s never [D]fair

But [G]be it fair or not what is [D]needed what you want

De[C]cisions he seems to weigh constant[D]ly

What [G]will the future hold on the [D]days of frigid cold

[C]Worried about what [G]is and what’s to [D]be

Verse 4

The [D]girl enters his life and her [Am]views seem to infect

His [C]worried ways of [G]concerns full of [D]fear

[D]Learning always learning what you [Am]never knew about

Leaves [C]little time for a [G]life without [D]cheer

[G]Learning what to do [D]when it seems that you’re

Al[C]ready at the end of your [D]rope

[G]The relief it gives just to [D]be inquisitive

Is [C]relief that brings you [G]joy and helps you [C]cope [G] [D]

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: "A Tale"

Hi Jeff,

This sound to me as though this is the story of a young American boy and a Japanese girl who meet, fall in love, and live happily ever after.

A great song that flows well and is easy to find a melody for. Thank you,

Re: "A Tale"

Hey Phil and Roger - I wrote this because my wife said that she would like to illustrate a book for children and yes Roger I kind of based it on my wife and I but not exactly. When I was done she said that it was too complicated a story  for kids but I think she's just chicken. Anyway I'm still working on her and she does draw very well. As for part 2, that might be a good idea...let me think about it. Thanks for the feedback.

Re: "A Tale"

Hi Jeff,
Great story line. smile
I think it would make a good story for children depending on how it is illustrated.Guys grow up and dream differently from the gals(just ask my ex's lol).
There's a good moral here cause the bottom line is we should all be allowed to dream as kids but we have to be prepared for the realities of life.
Looking forwards to the recording as usual roll and part two.
Ya gotta record these.....yer killing me here.

Re: "A Tale"

Hey Ken - Thanks. I'm sorry about my lack of recording lately. I should have a few down pretty soon. Hopefully 1 or 2 this weekend.
