Topic: Hello...

Hi all...

first post here, found this site last night while browsing for chords, and was amazed at the amount of useful topics in the forum, decided to come on board, to chip in when I can, and annoy you with my own questions

Playing acoustic for about 2 years, teaching myself, just bought my 3rd guitar. Started with an "ok" thingy, then bought a ridgewood, and purchased a takamine semi acoustic last week. I'm still pretty rubbish at playing guitar though, I can just about manage my barr chords, but struggle with B like some people here

Anyhow, just said I'd say hi and look forward to chatting...

PS. Amazing lately the amount of Tab/Chord sites that are being forced to stop putting songs online?! Copyright infrigement and all that, pity really.

Re: Hello...

Crapo,

Regarding the B chord. Try doing an A chord first with your 2nd,3rd,4th fingers. Then slide them up to the 4th fret, and add the 1st finger to the 1st string, 2nd fret. This will form a B chord without having to barre it!

Just play the first four strings. Hope this helps!

Re: Hello...

tab is not as complecated as it first appears so the trick is just take it at face value and don,'t overcomplecate it just literally think of it as your fret bourd upside down and put your fingers where it tells you to, if you look at it like that you'll find things start to become alot clearer in your mind

Re: Hello...

Hello everyone,

I am Alex. I am a beginner to this site as well, and I think it's great!

I have been playing for 16 years. I just got out of college with a classical guitar degree, and now I realize that people think it's relaxing but don't really care that much. So frustrating. Now I live in New Paltz, NY (about an hour and a half from NYC). It's a quaint little hippie town where everyone wants to sound like bob dylan. I am more of a Beatle fan myself, but Dylan is still really cool. My biggest problem so far is finding good people to play with.

I don' know...don't mean to rant, I'm just frustrated with peoples apparent appathy towards classical guitar....

I think it is such beautiful music...

Re: Hello...

greetings lx rubin and WOW! Just heard your stuff on MySpace and very much like the music.

Don't worry too much about what 'people think' about classical guitar - because most folks don't really think, they just react unfavorably to anything that isn't mass-produced, shrink-wrapped, and then shoved down their throats like it's something important.

Many people have no perceptual context for music other than what they encounter in their consumer-driven existance. So, play your music and hone your art.

If you want to be mobbed by teeny-boppers, get some spandex (or whatever the current fashion affection might be) and dumb down your playing. If you want to be a musician, continue to sharpen your already impressive skills and keep an open ear and an open mind.

Re: Hello...

alex,

superb playing there.

I will admit, I dont listen to this sort of guitar playing but I love watching someone play it. My mates wee brother plays classical and is very good.

Something I dont think I will ever learn to play.

well done

10/10

Re: Hello...

Thanks a lot, i really appreciate the compliments...I will always love to play classical, but the main reason I went to school for it is for the technique and reading/theory. What I want to do with my music is write songs and play electric and acoustic with or without a pick. If I only played classical guitar, I'd be more of a historian than a musician. I want to play my music for a living, not some dead guys, however great they may have been. Once I organize my songs and put them onto the computer, I'll upload them onto the chordie server.

as a sidenote along the same grain:**People love it when you play pop songs in a classical style. If you can fingerpick the chords and melody of Yesterday, anyone will tip you...

If they recognize it, it's good music...
