Topic: Copyrights on songs?

What do you have to do to ensure that your music won't be stolen online? Not like mine is that great, but just thought it would be a good idea when I'm song writing.

Re: Copyrights on songs?

you can google up the copyright office and theres a form you can fill out online the cost is $45.00 but I would wait till you had more songs to put on a cd because you have to send them 2 cd's the only protection is the date you sent the application theres more about protecting your songs and a copyright is the safest but if someone wants to steal what your writing concider it a compliment I dont think theres a whole lot you can do it you place them on the web for anyone to copy but maybe some other members have a few ideas that may help smile

Re: Copyrights on songs?

It cost less if you do it through the Copyright Office Online System at http://www.copyright.gov/register/sound.html

Advantages include:

Lower filing fee of $35 for a basic claim (for online filings only)
Fastest processing time
Online status tracking
secure payment by credit or debit card, electronic check, or Copyright Office deposit account
the ability to upload certain categories of deposits directly into eCO as electronic files

Re: Copyrights on songs?

Thanks for the info and the link Randy but it gets a little expensive just registering one song the fee is the same if you put 20 or more on the CD but if your rolling in dough $35.00 a song is small change lol

Re: Copyrights on songs?

Okay, well thanks, I guess is only if you're an actual recording musician then? So I'm fine the way I am, right?
