How do you play this chord?

Re: Ab/Eb???

There's another thread somewhere about this notation. The /Eb means that the "bass" or lowest note you play is an Eb. This note is part of (the 5th) an Ab chord so in this case, it's a straight Ab chord shape (barre on 4th fret) but not playing the lowest string.

On a piano, the Ab is the right hand and the Eb is the left hand.
  On the guitar there are several ways to play the booger of a chord. Here are a few;
                 1) tune guitar a half-step down and play (002220)
                 2)XX114X
                 3)as Stonebridge stated(466744)

The Eb is a note within the structure of Ab so simply playing the Ab is the easiest and most practical route. If a bass player is playing with you, they'd play the Eb, you'd play the Ab, and harmonious bliss would then occur..........

Give everything but up.

Re: Ab/Eb???

I play Eb tuba along with a guitar player.
He uses a capo on his first fret. Then he is able to play a "D" chord above that and it comes out Eb. Playing a "G" chord will yield an Ab.
This puts my tuba in all it's "happy" keys.
Together we sound like this:

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".
Ya'll wanna go down to the Guf?
