Re: Advise on up strumming

im not sure how long you have been playing but you have stumbled onto something, and that is, that most begineers concentrate on the fretting hand which is a very integral part of playing the guitar however, i try to get people to realize that the strumming hand is what its all about, and now you have figured that out on your own.just keep at it and it will come.its all about repitition and lots of practice.if you have heard of janes addiction they have a song called jane says, the chords are g and a.

when playing that song stum the g with downstrokes and the a with all upstrokes.that might help you figure out what upstokes are all about.have no fear you will get there.

Tnx man,its so frustrating tough, and my string just snaped:(Could i be any more p-ed off!o,im getting an electric at the weekend, will that be any easer or harder with strumming?

Re: Advise on up strumming

dude if it were me i would stick with acoustic until i perfected strumming, the reason is with acoustic every thing you do must be clean or it wont sound right, with electric you can crank up the gain(distortion) and all the mistakes can be covered up.i personally believe starting out with acoustic is better because it forces you to be more accurate in your fretting and strumming.and when starting out with electric and an amp it can be really trying to get a good tone for strumming, dont get me wrong though, cranking it up with power chords, dropped d ,etc... is a blast and really gets your pump going.best of luck man.

Try strumming some Bob Segar tunes

Breat strumming patterns in his music if you like it.
