Read the thread:
Donate it to a youth group.
We are all given free will,
per your statement that he would
be more blessed if he donated it
is true. But as far to your statement
why should you keep something that maybe
useful to others let me ask you this.
Do you own more than one pair of shoes?
If so why you only have one pair of feet.
Donate your shoes and be blessed.
If he choses to give or keep the guitar
will not stop him from being blessed. It may
stop him from the bacca blessing (God's full
blessing) but he will still be blessed. Are we
to be like the rich man showing that he gave to
be noticed or like the widow who gave all?
Of the pulpit now.

This is a rhetorical question?
Both of them.
God can't have it unless he pays me the asking price, and then I want to see the money before I hand it over, remember all that pushing over of tables belonging to money lenders in the temple.

I'm pretty certain God can afford His own guitar.
She's blessed me with four of them. Be a shame not to play them, don't you think?
Seriousley I think God would play acoustic
In the 60's alot of people thot Clapton was
God (not to mock The living GOD) He played
electric.
All joking aside - donating a guitar to a group (any group) of people is like signing a death warrant on the instrument. It will only be slammed about and be in sad tatters soon.
People who don't play have little or no appreciation for the fact that instruments don't heal . . . I cringe anytime I see a non-musician grab any instument - it's like watching a curious child mangle a butterfly.
Better for you to find a deserving individual who is wanting a guitar - somebody who would truly appreciate the opportunity to play and enjoy the instrument. Ask around - somebody will know someone who will feel that your old guitar is like manna from heaven (to continue the biblical theme).
It's a great opportunity to spread some joy - don't waste it by giving the guitar to a 'group' - give it to an aspiring player.
I should have defined my comment as to a guitar
player who is connected to a youth group in
need of a guitar. James you espressed my
sentiment better than I did.

I think you misunderstood ,I wanted to know of the two guitars which one would be better for a novice to learn with then I would sell the other one.Anyway I've kept the Tanglewood.
Back to the original reply: KEEP BOTH
I know you already sold the yamaha. On a stand
point of confusion (yes I will confuse you
with my statments). There is two school of
thought #1 keep the one with the best action
and sound. It will be easier to play and sound
great. #2 keep the one with the rough (high)
action because it will be harder to play and
you will gain alot of hand and finger stregnth
while your learning. The tonal quality may
still be good even if the action is high. On
#2 when you progress and when it comes to
up grade your playing will be faster and you
will have hand strength so your chords will
sound clearer. Hope this train of thought is
as clear as mudd to you.

I ditched a gibson for a ibanez some may think im crazy, but I never played gibson much really compared to the mexican made telecaster I played for 7 years. The ibanez the reason I bought ibanez I owned one in the past, and like how easy it is to play compared to gibson. Telecaster on mine got a female sound to it with a little bite to it im keeping her. The gibson had good sustain, and warm sound, but it lacked the grab and bite afffect I desired out my guitars. I traded to lazy on maintence of a inbanez with no tremolo bar, just bought a honda of guitar really.
Bootleger makes a great point about action vs. tonal quality. I had a mexican Stratocaster when I started but playing in a praise band led to purchase of an Ibanez ac/el setup. The action on the Ibanez was higher and had more tension to place chords down, so it made the chord formations a lot easier to place on the fretboard once I was back to the Strat. Now, my playing has progressed to the point that I was looking for something with better tonal quality, so I picked up a used Yamaha RGX with floationg bridge. Similar feel to the Strat, but much better sound thru its pickups. So I am down to the Ibanez ac/el and the Yamaha, but can't seem to part with the Strat for sentimental reasons...........still pick her up every once in awhile for old times sake....
dchewning, you can hot rod the strat to get a
better sound it would have cost less than the
price you paid for your used RGX. The MIM strat
body is more than likely an alder body while
your yamaha probley basswood(?). I have a
23 year old Guild C45F ac/el that I relpaced
the original pick up with a B Band set up that
I would use for worship. (last band I played in
for 5 years)

sorry I am still a bit of a novice when it comes to equipment....got the RGX for $250 used - had floating bridge, lock nuts on headstock, 5 way switching like the fat Strat (pickup configuration to match), and a neat feature I like to call the "override switch" - it bypasses all controls and allows full on assault - comes in great when I play Jesus Freak.
I have the "Fat Strat" version of the mexi Strat - what pickups do you recommend to "hot rod" the axe? I really love playing the old girl - would like to use her a little more. Any input would be great - props to you - have seen many a post from you and it looks like you give sage advice.
i think that sometimes (not every case) playing a harder instrument will develope muscles that ought not to be developed.
I know that perfect technique is as elusive as absolute zero, but truthfully, one should play the exact same way on high action that they would play on low action too. on the left hand you really just have to keep a straight wrist and let gravity do most of the work for you...try this: Play a scale, any scale...but here is the exercise, try to buzz every note. You will see how softly you have to press to actually get the note out. Gravity is your left hands best friend!
Will your notes ring clear? A higher action
will require more pressure than a lower action
since there is more distance from the finger
board to the string. You won't turn into a
body builder but when you go to an action that
is lower you will reconize the difference in
pressure you'll need to get a clear note. In
essence you're still playing the same your not
changing your style or technique. The
difference is going to be the feel of the
guitar neck and the fluidness of your playing.
Chances are that the body routing on your is
what is called a swimming pool route.(a big
square hole) If it is than you have a few
options #1 use the traditional 3 single coil
pick ups. #2 use (2)humbuckers wired with a 5
way switch which will give you the capabilities
to play both humbucker sound and split coil
(single coil) sound from a humbucker. A wiring
kit, new pearloid pick guard (my usual pick)
and pick ups should run about $125.00. If you
know how to solder and read schematics, other
wise you need somesome one to wire it for you.
Try GFS pick ups (www.guitarfetish.com) their
prices are reasonable and quality product. If
you want high end check out rio grande pickups.
(www,riograndepickups) When you ready (I
usually have to save or do a repair for spare
cash) let me know if I can help.

does it matter
I wouldnt be right to say which you should keep, I haven't played a Tanglewood Electric Guitar, I have played a tangle bass though, they are ok.
I am personally a big anti-Yamaha guy so I wouldnt be able to make a fair choicce.
I say, sell both and get a Gibson/gibson Copy (Gould/Epiphone) or a fender/Squier guitar. (DONT GET A SQUIER STRATOCASTER, GET A SQUIER JAGMASTER)
