Topic: f chords

i am 14 and a budding guitarist, i want to be able to switch quickly from other chords to the f chord, has any1 got any good tips as to how i can get my first finger down quickly enough for it to sound ok, as at the moment i am finding it quite difficult, cheers from, bw.  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif" border=0 alt="Very Happy">  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_cool.gif" border=0 alt="Cool">  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif" border=0 alt="Very Happy">

Hi there, welcome to the mighty Chordie. Unfortunately, as everyone on here will tell you, there are no quick answers for this kind of thing. Keep at it. Practice plenty. Don't let the frustration turn you off.

Try and have fun doing it. Play some songs with plenty of F's in there. You'll soon find that all the practice is worth it and as I've said before it won't be long until there are new frustrations.

B for instance.

So why are you reading this when you should be off practicing.

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

The f chord,not as hard as it seems me thinks,ive been playing only 8-9 weeks and would not look at a song with a f or b in it,but all i did was keep my index finger completely out of the way, and pratice the e and em and am chords with my other fingers .Once you can do that just bar with the index finger, that helped me with f f# fm bm well it worked for me anyway ,give it a go . good luck <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

Pratice your "F maj" chord, then go to a "C maj" then to a "G" all in the same neck position. Work it from G to C to F and reverse. Once you get that down then you could go from the G to E and C to Am. This should help you on chord changes and getting use to the changes.  In time you will progress to more diverse chord patters and structuring. And as mentioned by alvee33 PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE.

there are no quick answers for this f chord issue, you have to just keep your wrist straight, and let gravity do most of the work for you, but you can get a really nice Fmaj7 chord by forgetting all about barring the top two strings and play an open e on the top note, from the bottom, play F-A-C-E.  can't go wrong, also, try going from this chord to Cmaj7 (from the bottom, C-E-G-B-E.)  same as a C chord, but leave the 2nd string open.
